L. H. Payne came up from New port yesterday morning. Dr. F. M. Carter of Newport was a Chitwood visitor Wednesday. W. F. McJunkin and A. E". Erooks were Newport visitors Tuesday. John Nye. the Newport butcher, was visiting in this city Wednesday. M. Wygant cf Newport passed through on Wednesday morning's train. Mrs. J. B. Miller came down from Portland Saturday evening for a visit with her husband. G. H. Horsfall arrived down from Rock Creek Wednesday even ing having business at the county seat. A caucus will be held at the city hall this evening for the pur pobe of naming a ticket for the coming city election. Al Waugb has installed an elec tric urn in his Smokehouse, and is now prepared to serve his custom ers with hot drinks 'n short order. Mrs. Lola Cruson returned to her home at Albany Saturday morning. She was accompanied by Mrs. I. B. Smith who visited with her for a few days. Ntxt Sunday Toledo and Siletz will strain meet on the football field. Siletz now claims the cham pionship of the county. Come out and watch Toledo take it away from them. Admission 25 rents. Game called at 2 p. m. sharp. To ledo ground. Mrs. W. E. Ball returned from Oregon City Saturday evening, where she had been to attend the wedding of her niece, Miss Rftta Gordy, who was married at Vancou ver. November 6th, to Mr. John Ho'utz. a young farmer of Sandy. Mis3 uordy formerly resided on the Lower Siletz and is quite well known in thi3 county. At the city election to be held" December 1st f ree councilmen are to be elected. It is well to remem ber that our citv is growing rapid ly, and in making your selections for counci'men, judgement should be exercised to select men who are capable, and hae the time and in clination to further the interests of our city. The three councilmen who retire this year are A. T. Peterson, M. N. Anderson and W. E. BaH. A: Composition The State ' Seal of Oregon' is round in shape. First, around the ouside is a stripe on which is writ ten. "Seal of the State of Oregon 1859." Inside of that is a row of stars nut running quite around the circle. Next comes a figure, the shape of a shield; at the top of it is an eagle with outspread wings. In one claw he holds an olive branch in the other a bunch of arrows. Just below that (in the shield) is a river with boats on it; on one side a mountain with a deer stand ing on a cliff. On the bottom land, below this is an emigrant wagon.
