Misses Eleanor Grady and Imo gene Altree are visiting the rose festival this week. J. H. Ross made a trip down to the mouth of Salmon river the first of this week, on business for the Sheriff. Mrs. I. M. Tindell was up from Newport yesterday, returning on the evening train. George Hoeflein, who has been having a severe time with the grip, is able to be around again. The launch Lollipop brought a eiowu of eighteen up from Newport last evening to attend the dance given by Rosebrook's Orchestra. Miss Edith Ball is acting as cen tral girl in the office of the Lincoln County Telephone, in the place of Miss Floy Cox, who is spending the week in Portland. Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Crosno and daughter, Miss Tillie, returned last Friday evening from a visit with their daughter, Mrs. Effie Thayer, and family at Summer Lake, East ern Oregon. Earl J. Leggett, the Water Front barber, yesterday purchased the barber shop of Lee Bartholomew, and will move his shop from the water front to the Bartholomew shop the first of next week. We do not know what Mr. Bartholomew inte nds to do in the future." Portland will have a commission form of goverment as soon as the required changes can be brought about. Mayor Simon has named a commission to draft a charter pro viding for the new form and the re cent city election will only hasten the change, as all candidates were favorable to it. $10 to insure wfth foal will be the price the Livery Stables will charge for services of the two stallions, Blazer, heavyweight, (2000 pounds) and the well known Mark Hanna, (1500 pounds), on account of keep ing same at home and avoiding worry, risk and traveling expenses. Premium lists for the State Fair next September have been issued. Premiums amonting to $16,000 and $25,000 racing purses will be hung up on the harness events alone, in addition to the awards for running races. General plans for the fair are well under way and it is prom ised this year's exposition of the state's resources will be bigger and better than ever. Dates have bee fixed for September 11-16.
