The Leader has just installed the first type setting machii.e ever brought to this county. The ma chine is an Adjustable Simplex, manufactured by the Unitype Com pany of New Jersey. This machine will do the work which would re quire several men to do by hand. We expect to have the machine in operation next week. Some months ago we installed a cylinder press, and from time to time have been adding to the equip ment, until now we have the be3t . 1 . ! ! 1 ll 1 v t ,1 ' M't' pillitili CO LM lOUiiU in any of the coast counties. Of course it has taken considerable money to install all this modern machinery, but the LEADER intends to keep abreast of the times and to do this it is necessary to facilitate the labor. Within a few weeks we hope to be able to enlarge tho paper, and thus he able to better supply every bit of news available. Lincoln county is growing and developing, and the Leader is grow ing, and intends to remain the leading county local news paper. Dr. W. WHAT WHI YOU WANT YOU WANT IT Reports from all over Lincoln county indicate that there will be a heavy fruit crop this year. The frosts of a few weeks past seemed to have done but very little, if any, damage. Strawberries and other early Iruits will be a little late but the yield will be good. Lebanon will hold a strawberry festival for three days beginning June I, The "Garden City" as Lebanon is known , will also have a rose show and a horse and stock ex hibition in connection with the car nival. Rains of the past week have been hailed with delight by all sections of the state. Eastern Oregon lias welcomed the showers for they were needed to supply moisture to the grain fields. All other sections re port that the rainfall makes crop prospects particularly bright. A sane Fourth of July is prom ised for Portland. It is now the in tention to make a quiet one, with out the usual noisy features that are usually so prominent in the obser vance of the Independence Day. People of the city for the most part plan to spend the Fourth in the country and to enjoy picnics and outings in the fields and woods within reach of Portland, To aid the development of the Northwest states, from Minnesota to the Coast, delegates from the Bcction interested met during the past week at Helena, Montana, and took steps to form the Northwest Development League. It will ex ploit the states of Oregon, Washing ton, Idaho, Montana, North and South Dakota, Minnesota, and the territory of Alaska. Meetings will be held each June and December, to be known as the Northwest De velopment League Congress. The December meeting will lie held in Minnesota, in connection with the big land show. The 1912 congress will meet in Seattle. The Lincoln County Annual Teachers' Institute will be held at Newport Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of next week. Every teach er in the county should attend. Many of the most noted instructors from over the state will be there. We received a large order for bridge stock a few days ago. This win promised in forty-eight hours. Furnished in twenty four.
