Admission, adults, 25c; child ren, 15c. A New Rooming House. F. J. McElwain has befcun the construction of a large rooming house and gymnasium at the corner of Hill and 6th streets. The grad ing work is being done, and Ted expects to have the building com pleted within a month or six weeks. The building will be 30x44 feet, tbree stories, the first two stories will be fitted up with ronms, about sixteen in number, and the third floor will he "equipped as a gum, with all the latest, up to date par aphernalia. This is a much needed addition to the town. With the arrival daily of new people our ho tels and rooming houses have been taxed and in many instances people have had a hard time finding rooms The gymnasium is another needed improvement. The Yaquina Electric Company is the name of the company that has taken over the plant of the Newport Power Company. It is the inten tion of the new company to com pletely rebuild the line, giving New port as good service as can be had. Charles H. Burggraf of Albany was a visitor in this city over Sun day. Mr. Burggraf gave an imper sonation stunt at the Dime Satur day evening, which was highly ap preciated by the patrons of the the ater and the police did not molest him. The Mayor of Newport has named May 1st as a cleaning up day, and on that day the people of that city will turn in and clean up their yards, streets, etc, and beautify the town generally. We think this scheme could be adopted with profit by Toledo. The carjienter work ana painting of tDe new school house has been completed. As soon as the plumb tag is completed and the furnace and heating apparatus installed, the building will be ready for occupan cy. loleilo can now boast of the finest school building in the county. J. H. Ross and F. J. McElwain have formed a partnership and will go into the real estate business. They have rented rooms in the Otstedahl building and their office furniture will Boon be here. The firm intends to handle anything and everything in the wav of land. Dave Ross and family .went to Dallas last Monday morning, where Mr. Ross will run an engine for Mr. Ebbe, who has a road contract there Bus. Frank Newton returned home last Friday evening from a visit with her parents at Oregon City. She was accompanied by Mr Newton who joined her at Albany J. W. Ncwcombe of Portland has taken charge of the harness making department of the Toledo Tannery. Mr. Jsewcombe is an old hand at the business having worked at that trade in Portland for a great many years. Al Waugh has installed one of the most complete, and up to date, soda water fountains to lie found this side of Portland. It is what is known as an ice less fountain, re quiring less ice to keep the contents cool than any other fountain made It is covered with marble , and lighted by electricity, and it certainly is a credit to the town.
