A New Rooming House.
F. J. McElwain has befcun the
construction of a large rooming
house and gymnasium at the corner
of Hill and 6th streets. The grad
ing work is being done, and Ted
expects to have the building com
pleted within a month or six weeks.
The building will be 30x44 feet,
tbree stories, the first two stories
will be fitted up with ronms, about
sixteen in number, and the third
floor will he "equipped as a gum,
with all the latest, up to date par
aphernalia. This is a much needed
addition to the town. With the
arrival daily of new people our ho
tels and rooming houses have been
taxed and in many instances people
have had a hard time finding rooms
The gymnasium is another needed
improvement.
The Yaquina Electric Company is
the name of the company that has
taken over the plant of the Newport
Power Company. It is the inten

The Mayor of Newport has named
May 1st as a cleaning up day, and
on that day the people of that city
will turn in and clean up their
yards, streets, etc, and beautify the
town generally. We think this
scheme could be adopted with profit
by Toledo.
