Homextead Koticea, l.j; Timber Kotlres, $10, ROCK ROADS FOR LINCOLN COUNTY The County Court Embarks Up on a Crushed Rock Sys tern for Roads The County Court, at an ad journed meeting last week deflnate Jy decided to begin the system of building permanent roads in this county out of crushed rock, after a careful investigation of the merits and domerits of nil the available materials for road building in this county. To this end the Court has ordered and purchased a rock crush er, and as soon as it arrives it will begin the work of crushing rock and placing the same on the roads, We are informed that the crusher, for tho present, will be placed along Bide the railroad track in the north part of town, where tho rock can bo easily unloaded from the car directly to the crusher. Steam power will be usod' to crush the stone, The present intention is to bring the rock from a short distance above Pioneer, where an excellent quality of rock for road purposes has' been found, It will be shipped by rail to the crusher at this place, tho railroad company hav ' jng made nn extremely low rate for the shipment, in order to encourage the county to use rock on tho roads, Tho advertisement for bids for the placing of the first two miles of this road appears in this issue,' The Court has used good judg jnont in determining to use rock on the roads, and the people and tax payers of the county are to lie con gratulated upon tho determination of the court to make the best roads to be had, With good, permanent roads our county will progress as never before, Romembor now is the timo to point, we are soiling Shenvin Wil liams Pure Prepared Paint, Best Jn the world. Report of Grand Jury, To tho Honorable J, W, Hamilton, Judge of the above entitled Court; Tho undersigned, constituting thu Grand Jury of the above en titled court, at the August, 1909 term thereof, respectfully make this, their final report as follows: Wo have examined into all crimes committed and triable in said Lincoln County, Oregon, which havo come to our knowledge or attention and make report thereof, except that certain matters are now pending upon which we cannot make report at this time, and we liave therefore adjourned to meet on Friday, February 11th, 1910, at tho hour of nine o'clock in the morning of said day, Wo havo examined tho several county oflices and the condition thereof, and beg to report that we find the offices in good condition and the books and files thereof neatly kept . We would recommend that the vault in the clerk's office I enlarged by extending the same at. least ten feet into tho office j and that the vault be furnished . with fteel furnishings, We find that the county baa no jail, end we earnestly recommend tlie propriety and necessity of the erection at an early date of a jail of efficient capacity for this county, It is not consistent with the dignity or obligations of the county to try to exist without a jail to hold its prisoners.- We would further recommend that the water closet now in use in connection with the courthouse be abandoned, and that modern and sanitary closets be installed; and further that an arrangement be made by which water be brought to the courthouse grounds for protect ion.
