It has recently been discovered that the leaves of the fern plant, which grows almost anywhere, is an excel lent preservative for packing articles of food, fruit and even meat. It is said that on the Isle of Man fresh her rings are packed in ferns and arrive on the market in as fresh a condition as when they were shipped. A num ber of experiments have demonstrated that potatoes packed in ferns keen many months longer than those pack ed in straw. In fact potatoes packed in fern leaves are as fresh in the springtime as when they were first dug in the fall. Eternal Progress. Famous poets mnke interestin wills. Browning's was written in his own beautiful hand, with the initials of all the nouns substantive In capitals, after the olden use, and the attesting witnesses were "A. Tennyson" and "F. T. Palgrave." Matthew Arnold's, also rererred to, was remarkable for its brevity. A baker's dozen of words were deemed enough: "I leave everv- thing of which I die possessed to my wife, Frances Lucy." This, however, because no executor was appointed, had to be set aside for letters of ad. ministration; but the result was the same. These two famous wills form, with Shakespeare's, the most notable trio perhaps ever handled br nroh&ta la this country. London Chronic!.
