Rev. E. E. E. Rorick, a former pastor of the M. E. church here, is in town this week taking teachers' examination. Rev. Rorick has traded their farm near Philomath for a place at Harlan. William Mackey and Harry.Fant, of Andy Porter's surveying crew, came over from Benton county on Sunday's excursion and spent 'the day here and at Newport. The Ladies Aid Society will meet on Wednesday August 18th with Mrs. Harding. All members are requested to be present with their thimbles. Mrs. Harding, Secy. Mr. and Mrs. N. II. Sherwood, after a several weeks' visit with relatives and friends in this place, left Monday morning for Springfield where Mr. Sherwood is a conductor on he S. P. The Ofstedahl building is receiv ing a coat of paint this week. That helps. It would help the appear ances of the town if a thousand dollars worth of paint wag spread over our buildings., Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Buford and son Jay were up from Newport, where they are camped, Wednesday. Jay has given up the ranch and will go to Seattle soon to engage in the mercantile business. Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Ilibbs and daughter, Miss Edna, of Gaston, were in the city Tuesday looking up old acquaintances. Mr. and Mrs Hibbs and family are spending the summer at Newport. C. G. North, the real estate man, reports just closing two farm deals. The Tyler ranch on Olalla slough was bought by a Mr. Bangtson from Idaho, and James Bell of Portland bought the Morrison place at Pioneer. The committee on stock sheds for the Fair request that all intending exhibitors notify Uiem of the num ber of stalls' and space required at the earliest possible moment. The committee is composed of F. M. Stanton, W. C. Copeland and R. A. Arnold.
