Benson, Secretary of State, was sworn in as Governor -of the State Monday, Chief Justice Moore administering the oath in the presence of the members of the Supreme Court, the State officials and a few visitors. Governor Ben son now holds two offices, that of Governor and Secretary of State, iind he will have double power in all the board meetings with the Gov ernor, Secretary of State' and State Treasurer and this will call for cool and careful judgement on his part, but we believe that the Governor will be able to handle these matters to the satisfaction of the people of llie state. Now it is President Tuft. Salem has concluded, to forbid minors entering pool and' billiard halls. Several women met with the council at their meeting Monday evening and urged the passage of the ordinance. The knocker is a curse to human ity. Evens went to Toledo Monday to settle up the David Ruble estate of which she is admin istratrix. While in Toledo last week W. F. Keady had the pleasure of hearing the Toledo band. He reports the organization a good one. It is probable that Waldport will have a newspaper in the near future. Arrangements are being made for an up to date plant. L. V. Colvin, who recently suff fie.l an accident at the Waldport Lumber Company's mill is very much improved and able to be out once more. Dr. Linton has moved his stock of drugs into , the Lutgens store. Waldport. has been in need of a good physician for a Jong time, its citizens having been put to e great expense sending to other towns for A doctor, A large casting in the shingle mill exploded Monday. Although several persons were near at the time no one was injured. One piece of metal cut through a 2 x 8 timber, " v James Tyler arrived the first of the month for the purpose of look ing after his interests here. Mr. Tyler expects to return to Wald lort and make this his permanent residence. The Waldport Lumber Company has established a camp in the cedar timber south of Waldport, Subs tantial buildings have been erected and this arrangement will result in considerable advantage to those employed. Last Friday Captian Tyler beach ed the Condor near the mouth of the bay for tho purpose of cleaning and painting the bottom. The boat'was taken off again the next morning, Captian Tyler is prom ised the services of a larger and better boat the coming season.. A letter from Virgil Howell states that he is contemplating returning to Lincoln County as his health in the Willamette Valley has not been as good as usual. Mr. Dave Gay and family were preparing to move in at the time the fire occurred. Messrs. Hinkley and Bracket, ex perienced beach miners, have arriv ed in Waldport and will investigate the )each sands south of Alsea Bay. There has been less beach mining in this vicinity than usual the past winter. There are still many inquiries for houses in Waldport. It would pay someone handsomely if they would erect' a few good houses for rent here. Dozens of people have been disappointed in not finding houses. J. II. Glines went to Portland the first for the purpose of buying water pipe and other necessary sup plies for the water system he is in stalling for Waldport. The supply of water which has been secured is considered amply sufficient for present use and will give us a sup ply of good spring water for family use. Real Estate Transfers.
