I was born in ISilM. A man had me in his pocket. Yesterday he Rave bis little boy a new suit of clothes and in them be found mp. His father told him ho hud to tio to Sunday school. The next day the little bov put on his new suit and took uit to Sunday school.' I hud to stay in his pocket uutil bit; teacher came after mo and the other pennies. She put tne in a box with the other pennies, and I Hsked some of the other pennies how they came, and one said became with a poor boy, and the others come with other hoys mid Kills. I stayed in the box a day then 1 was taken away on the train for Sunday school papers. I was tnkeii into a large building and given to a man. He took me down to thecimdy store and bought some candy for bis little girl. The woman that owned the candy store gave me to her little boy. He was out playing with some oilier boys and lost tne. I laid oil the ground for a mouth, then a 'poor boy found me He took nie to his home as fast as he could run. His father and mot her were .'lad that he found me. I was put upon the shelf over the stove, and one day when he was hunting me he knocked me in llie stove. There was a hot lire in the stove and it turned me black. 1 wondered what he was Uoing to buy with me then. He cried very hard, but when the fire was out he found ine. He was as happy us could be. Then be took me and four other pennies down town and bought some candy ami a whistle. He went home playing the w liisi ie as Imnl us he could. He gave his little sisler, mother and father nonie of the candy and bad some left for him self. The storekeeper looked at me for a long time and could not read the date. He told the clerk t hat I was not any good, so he gave me to a little boy. This was a tad little boy ami be put me on the railroad rail and the traiu run over me and split me in two. NoaMAN Stewart. A PENNY I am a penny. I was once in on old man's hand and he gave me to a little girl. The little girl wa:s going down town and she dropped me in, oh I such a dark place that 1 could lutidlv see. The next day some one picked me up and 1 was so black. It was a little boy. Tho little boy brought me to his home uud hi i ii I. me up in a tittle house for a long time. One day he wanted some candy. He took me out and I was so glad. He went down town and weut into a store 'and bought, some, cauily. He gave me to the lady and Ihe lady put me wilh other pennies in a box. A little girl came in and bought some candy. She gave the lady t o much money for the candy so the lady gave me to her. It wau the same little girl that lost me. One day she put on her very best dress and took me with her to church She sat there for a while and then she gave tne to a boy and the boy put me in a little box. I stayed there for a long time. A man look me and put me in his pecke.t. Then he bought a paper with me. He gave the papers to little boys ami girls. I was born August the 12th it) the year 'of 1881. I was getting so old that 1 was green and people did care for me. One little boy put me out in the street where wagons and cars rode over me and I was old and dirty, I was left there all the rest of my life. ' Jcanita Krogrtad.
