Registration reopens Sept. 20. Closes for election Oct. 20. Presidential election Nov. 3. That Waldport-Tidewater Road Wnldport, Or., Oct. 3,1008. Lincoln County Leader To e o, Oregon, (lentlcnien:- In reply to Commissioners Fo garty's article in last week's Issue lermit me to submit the following in county warrants fr md above contract and affidavits. It doCS not nnmnri v,n,1 -i'lr U..M cw.n.l matter what conditions lead up to ' party to furnish all laUir and ma the contract. Suffice it to say that terinl US(!(l thereon at his own prop a contract was entered into in good I fcr cost and expense. Said second faith by the County Court for the pm.tv is to have the free use of the construction of a county road to be : county mu, plow and scrapcr the fight feet wide. Commissioner Fo-1 M district in which said road is garty was assigned the duty of re-, situatedf for WOfk g0 lcti porting on the work and his report! parts of gai(1 mul gaiJ BUm showed work done" which could ' t jim tn v a :,i ...i, n mean no other than an eight foot road bed. It was Mr. Fogarty's duty to see that the contract was enforced to the letter. If not why have a con tract? It matters not in cases of this kind whether the contractor makes ten dollars a day or loses it as far as the county is concerned. Contracts must be enforced else they are worse than useless and prevcht others who would fill their contracts from bidding. The Commissioner hud no right to accept the statement of a by stander and one to whom the claim for work bad been assigned. The additional work spoken of was not done until after September 9th when the work had been accepted. Mr. Ranta's affidavit clearly hi tows this, for if the work had been, done why did the contractor do any more. The added work did not materially change conditions. The recall amendment passed by the people June 1st is an amend ment to the Constitution ' of the rotate of Oregon. It provides for the duties of the County Clerk in ease a recall petition is filed. It takes 262 voters to enforce the re call between this time and the next general election. I am only one of the 202. The contract anil report are mat ters of record and the "work done" can be insiR-cted at any time by those wishing to do so. Trusting you will allow me at least as much space as you afforded Mr. Fogarty, I am, Very truly, YV'm. F. Keady.
