An editor of an exchange says there has been so much talk about bovs hanu- iug around church doors and making a general nuisance of themselves that he sent a representative to church the oilier Sunday eveuiug, to see if there was any truth in the story. He found the boys there all right,. but was some what surprised to see as many girls jotneoutof the church as there were boys, aud that after the girls came they paired off witli the b.iys and that there was not the least sign of friction. Every fellow had a girl that was willing; ull that was left wern a few old ir.sids who had to walk home alone. It has always been true; the boys would not be there ifthey didn't think the girls were there and also willing they hhould go home with them. Let the good work go ou. On a crowded passenger train out of Corvallls one . day recently, a well dressed lady came into a car looking for a vacant seat. A man who was pretty well loaded with booze and had enough of the gentleman in him to stagger to his feet to offer his seat to the lady. He had hardly staggered into the aisle before another mau took his seat. Looking at the fellow with disgust he said: ' I'm drunk, (hie) but I'll get over it. You're a hog, but you'll never get over it." . More wheat and lumber were shipped from Portland last month than from any other Pacific Coast port. Although it stands at the heud of tho list of Pa cific Coast wheat ports, the amount of wheat shipped from Portland was some what smaller than in former seasons, but in lumber exports all previous rec ords for a corresponding month were broken. The value of a lumber cargo is much less than that of a wheat cargo, but from the time it leaves the stump in the forest uutil it lands in the ship's hold lumber is a continued producer of employment for labor, and in this re. spect it is a most valuable factor in our commercial prosperity.
