Some of the neighbors were in to spend the evening and they had a tree fixed up with presents on it to please the children. They had a high time. ' A. L. Bliss, late from Illinois, is expecting his family .here this week. They were to leave Iowa last week for this point direct and expect to locate somewhere in this country. f- Ira Whitney who came home from the Oregon Agricultural col lege to spend the holidays, is on the sick list. We understand he has the grip. D. J. Chitwood has Clum Gear's house almost finished and they ex pect to move into it next week. Dell is a crackerjack at the car penter trade. Miss Bertha and Frank Chitwood spent a part of last week here at tending the week of prayer meet ings at the Adventist church. J. E. John Luther Long's new novel, "Naughty Natl," is published en tire in the January number of Lippincott's Magazine., After awhile it .will be brought out in book form, costing four or five times the price, of the Magazine form. In this tals Mi . Long proves that he is a master hand a love making in other lands than Japan, and in picturing the tender passion of a wilful New York girl he excels himself. Nan's mint calls upon a favorite nephew to s-ave Nan from a flock of matrimonially inclined men, so that the girl may "remem ber Cwtlor," a theological student to whom her aunt has allotted her. Cawdor writes "lady-like letter" from across the sea, which filled his sweetheart with a desire to give him a severe shock. The comedy that follows is deliriously witty yet is tender throughout, while the title of the closing chapter sums it all up in the words "And my arms opened and closed upon Nan."
