Carter of Elk City was a Resorter the fore part of the week. Ed Beetnan of Newport was a Toledo visitor yesterday. Col. F. Parker returned home on Monday night from his ranch near Yaquina Bay. He says Liucoln county Oregon, is fast filling up with a uew and industrious class of farmers, and from being about the poorest county in Oregon, is well on the way to become the richest in agricultural and dairy products. Creameries and cheese factories are springing up all aloug the line of the Corvallis & Eastern railroad, of which Edwin Stone is manager. The county is especially adapted for cattle, sheep and goats. It is especially a fruit country and the apples Col. Parker brought back from his orchard of 3000 trees are a sight for sore eyes. The great drawback to the county heretofore has been t1i? vast smovtst cf idle railroad land, and which has been tied up, but now it will in a few weeks be in the market, and in tending settlers will be able to ob tain homesteads that in a few years will, by industry, make them rich. There is very little frost or snow J there and fruit trees are free from insects pests, which is such a great drawback to horticulturalists else where. Fruit raisers there have a standing offer of one dollar for every apple a worm has infested. Any industrious family can make more than enough to pay the ex penses of a ranch every year by raising turkeys, chickens, geese and ducks, to sav nothing of " o berries. Fish and game abound every where and it is really the only couu try on the Pacific slope where a poor man with enough money to carry him along for a year can locate with the assurance that he will come out all right in short it is "A land that asks for labor And its wealth it wastes away." It is close to the harbor and bay of Yaquina which the past few days has so vastly been improved that there is now 30 feet of water on the bar. The United States govern ment has the past week blown up with dynamite the only rock that was a menace to navigation. Tim ber and cool springs, rivers and creeks abound, irrigation is un heard of. All the grasses, clover, rye, barley etc , yield abundantly. Every family has bee hives and honey is a staple product. Alto gether Lincoln county, Oregon, is destined to be a future Paradise.
