Swaford of Salem was in Yaquina Saturday visiting friends. Miss Mollie Walch returned home last Saturday from an extended visit in the east. Miss Anna Wright" of Pool slough spent Sunday in Yaquina, the guest of Mrs. J. Blaser. Mrs. W. C. Hoeflein of Albany spent Sunday with her many friends at Newport and Yaquina. Rev: and Mis. Charles Booth of Grants Pass came in Monday and passed down to Newport, their old home. Mr. Jorgeson of Portland Sun dayed with Yaquina friends and went down to the Yahats, his for mer home. Yes, we "went to the Fourth." It was splendid, and the good people of Toledo deserve great credit, as they had many obstacles to contend with, the worst being the rain. But they made it very pleasant for every one and we en joyed it very much. May they have many more without rain. 4 i J. H. Doty of Yaquina had busi ness in the county seat Monday. Mrs. S. V. Commissioners Wakefield and Godwin were ou hand Monday for the July session of county court. It Avas the end of the latter's term, and he is probablj- properly thank ful. Agent Buoy received a beautiful Belgian hare buck on the Wednes day evening train a present from some ol the railroad boys. The animal was petrified, but the donors declare that he will outpoint any thing in Buoy's rabbitry. While coming from Yamiina to Toledo on the Fourth via the cele brated "short cut" line, Walter Lane had all kinds of a time with the head of somebody's herd of catt!e. The animal put hiiu up a tree several times, but he finally ar rived in Toledo without any bniises or punctures. Persons going over the trail should carry a bottle of chloroform with , . , , which to subdue the brute.
