Owing to lack of sun shine the berries, of course, are by no means equal in flavor to those which ripen in the summer season, but the fact that they w ill grow and ripen here in midwinter is sufficient evidence that we're not so cold. No. 49 held its installation Tuesday even ing in the presence of all the friends that could be accommodated and leave sufficient room for the work on hand. Mrs. Rosa Scbenck of Shelledy Relief Corps No. 13S, Monroe, Iowa, acted as installing bfficer, the impressive ceremonies being conducted with smoothness and celerity which elecited favor able comment from the old veterans present. One of the most enthusi astic in this connection being Dr. Carter. "The men call themselves the lords of creation," said he, in a confidential whisper to Tun Lkadek. "I tell yon they're not in it with the women!" The doc tor said many other nice things about the women, but we cau't quote him any , further this week.. The officers installed were: Presi dent, Ina Sturdevant; senior vice, Eliza Kwing; junior vice, Ada Soule: chaplain, Klena Hyde; treas urer, Rebecca Dick; conductor, Kva Kwing: assistant conductor, Kmma Ktibler; guard. Mary Ar nold; assistant guard, Jennie Fish; secretary, LaVilla McNeil; color bearers, Tena Helgerson, Mae Lewis, Annie Hurley, Bertie Hd bart. The president was also in stalled as department patiiotic in structor, an honor of which Corps No. 49 is justly proud. A brief but interesting program followed the installation, and then lunch was announced. The supply of good things was unlimited and defied criticism. Sandwiches, ham, roast chicken, pie, cake and coffee were perfection, and the ladies crowded them to the front till everybody said "Pow." Dr. Frazer and T. P. Fish say "pow" is Hawaiian for "enough." After the good things had received proper attention the young folks present indulged iu games until after midnight, Dr. Carter taking the lead. It was an all-around good time, and those present will not soon forget the manner in which they were enter tained by Abe Lincoln Women's Relief Corps No. 49.-
