Dr. Carter went to the Valley the last of the week on .a business trip. The Bixel cheese factory is pro gressing as fast as circumstances will permit. Fishermen get now and then a steelhead salmon, but they seem to be few and far between this winter. George Bancroft returned from Portland Friday evening, and re sumed his place as marshal at the Bevens quarry. The United Artisans will meet on the second and fourth Saturday evenings at Artisans hall, in the Terwilliger building. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Dixon re turned from the Valley last week where they have been visiting friends and relatives. "To be, or not to be, that is the question" now on discussion at Elk City. Are : we living the last year of the 19th or the lirst year of the 20th century? Griffith Bros, of the Table Moun tain shingle mill, arrived Saturday afternoon with 30,000 shingles. They were packed on mules to Salado and rafted down Big Elk river to this place for J. R. Mays & Son. The Christmas tree and dance given by the Artisan lodge was a success in every way. Two trees were loaded with presents. The program was not lengthy, but from the cheers it received, was en joyed by all. Afterward the hall was occupied by many dancers until 6 a. m. Everyone seemed to have come for a good time, and went home asking: "When can we come again?" K. C. SILETZ ITEMS. ' John Adams journeyed to Toledo Wednesday. Beautiful weather, but rain is expected soon. The sawmill is putting out large quantities of good lumber. Miss Molmes was the recipient of a kodak outfit as a holiday token. Issue day passed off pleasantly, and everybody went home happy. The parsonage is being newly papered. Mrs. Peairs, benefactress. The stairways to the school build ing have received a new coat of paint. Our Doctor Daniel has been very busy vaccinating the entire com munity. Mrs. Rader is now cook for the mess, and we are in evidence that she is all right. Chief Harney called a council New Years day and wa-wa was indulged in to the good of all. Jack Ross, living across tne river from Siletz, is dangerously sick, and but little hope is entertained of his recovery. U. S. Grant's eyes bother him, but he is able to wink that other eye in dealing out justice in the Indian court. Mr. and Mrs. Center and Miss Anna Chambers attended the con cert in Toledo. They report every thing excellent but the tableau lights. Ed. Sullivan of Newpoit, has been buying fish here, paying four cents per pound for steelheads. He sent out about 400 pounds Thurs day, and will remain here taking the boys' catch for this week. Pastor. Having a Great run on Cham berlain's Cough Remedy.
