A program is being arianged for the day. Lee Is Improving Chas. Lee, a former Coos Bay business man who returned to his old home in Neb raska, on account of ill health, writes that he is improving, and hopes to be back on the Bay again, before long. First Local Salmon. The first Coos Bay salmon of the season were brought into market today. There have been some salmon brought in here from Rogue River, but these were the first to be caught here by Coos Bay fishermen. Mnny On Picnic. A large number left on the Baptist Sunday school picnic to Charleston Bay this morn ing. With their lunch baskets fun of good things to eat, and they them selves chuck full of fun, the young people will undoubtedly en joy a good time. Engine Breaks Down. The 11:40 train from Coqullle to Marshfleld was about two hours late today on ac count of the engine breaking down. Another engine had to be sent to bring In tho cars. Make Quick Run, rlt was stated here today that the road between Co qullle and Myrtle Point has been im proved so that the autos in the valley are now making the nine-mile run in twenty-five minutes. Stnrts Building. Joe Schilling of the Coos Bny Bakery expects to have the pile-driving for the foundation for his now bakery and cracker fac tory on North Front street stnrted this afternoon. The building will be rushed to completion as rapidly as possible. Funeral Today. The funeral of Alex Campbell was held from the Temple & Wilson Undertaking par lors at 2 o'clock this afternoon under tho auspices of the Marshfleld Aerie of Eagles. There was a large at tendance, the Eagles band heading the procession. ! Breaks Arm. Stella Haglund, the eight-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Haglund of South west Marshfleld, fell off a horse and sustained a compound fracture of the arm. JOHN KRONHOLM and Jay Maho ney returned last evening i from Ten Mile where they have been leading the simple life for a couple of weeks. Both have good coats of tan and plenty of blisters on their hands to attest that they worked to get up an appetito and Jack says It took lots of work and a mighty good appetite to bo able to exist on Jay's cooking while tho latter says that he will have to take an assistant cook tho next time in order to escape being over worked in trying to satisfy Jack's appetite. HEARING ON THURSDAY. Marshal Carter and Witnesses Reach Portland. Monday's Portland Oregonlan says: "J. A. Carter, city marshal of Marshfleld, and J. A. McDonald, aN mining man of the same place, ar rived in Portland on the steamer Breakwater and will be witnesses for the Government against Floyd W. Avery, charged with having In his possession counterfeit $10-gold pieces and giving the spurious money to others to circulate. Avery was arrested In this city last Sunday, fol lowing his arrival from the Coos Bay town. He will be given a pre liminary hearing before United Sta tes Commissioner Marsh in the Fed eral Court next Thursday." J. M. BLAKE REPORTS PROGRESS ON FRANCHISE Returns From Snn Francisco After Securing Consent of Non-Resident Property Holders. J. M. Blake returned yesterday from San Francisco by way of auto from Rosoburg to Myrtle Point. This was Mr. Blake's first ride over tho auto lino and It was a pleasant sur prise to him. The trip was made In the comfortable time of less than seven hours. Mr. Blako said today that when It is considered that the distance Is C5 miles, and 20 miles of this over a mountainous country, where less than ten miles an hour can be made, It will be readily seen that the rest of the road, which per mits of from 15 to 20 miles an hour without nny discomfort to the pas sengers, Is in very line condition. Mr. Blake also reports that pro gress has been made In securing tho consent of property owners for his street-car franchise, as the result of his trip to San Francisco. Mrs. Blako and son did not return with Mr. Blako but went to Spokana where they will visit with Mrs. Blake's parents. LOCAL SALVATION ARMY OFFICERS TRANSFERRED The officers of tho Salvation Army of Marshfleld aro about to say fare well, having been hero their alloted time.
