City Marshal Getting the ','Hurry-Up Wagon" Ready For Business. The work of numbering tho streets has lagged for tho past few weeks because of an alarming scarcity of the bright tin numerals of commerce designated by tho City Dads as tho correct thing to tack alike over tho most haughty and humble lintel n this altogether prosperous and thriving community. But the hnrdwnre men now have tin figures galore hnd tho ponalty Imposed by the council for delay In putting the numbers up aftor tho first day of this month will probably bo enforced. So tho laggards need not bo surprised In the least to see the majesty of th'o law, In tho per son of the city marshal, drift In on them at any time and, after shack ling them hand and foot, tote them more or less rudely to the city bastllo, whero they will languish for varying lengths of time according to tho way tho recorder happens to feel when ho pronounces sentence. No up-to-date business man can afford to go to jail oven for a week to avoid blowing himself for 15 cents worth of street numbers, es pecially as he will have to do It evontually anyway. Tho Times doesn't want to seo Mich an untoward state of affairs to pass and It therefore bogs tho public to get busy and tack up tho tin tokens that will mako tho marsh al grit his teoth and hiss "foiled again" when ho starts out to gather a mess of procrastinating property owners. Tho city engineer will bo pleased to supply tho correct numbering for any lot, together with tho latest name for each street, and tho hard ware dealers have arranged to sup ply tho figures at tho ridiculously low price of 5 cents per each or In lots of three for 15 cents, at that evon a gas company can afford to buy a complete sot and not pump any more than tho usual amount of pure Coos County air Into its useful but malodorour product. So let ovorybody get busy with tho tacks nnd display the tin emblems of municipal progress and the forerun ners of free mail delivery.
