The steam schooner Nan Smith arrived this morning light from Bay Point and Is loading with lumber at the Smith mill. She will leave again for Bay Point Monday. Record Is Broken. At the old North Bend the Redondo has broken her previous record for loading as the time consumed when she has finished this evening wljl be a little more than three days. 'She has taken on tho usual cargo of lumber for one of her trips to San Francisco. Lincoln Stamps. A special issue of two-cents stamps were placed on sale at the., Marshfleld postofllce yes terday. The stamps bore Abraham Lincoln's picture and were issued by the government in honor of the 100th anniversary of his birth. Only about enough-were sent to each post office for the one day's sale. R Mc- Alpine of Portland, who has been )n this vicinity several days, returned to Marshfleld' yesterday from Bandon and will leave this afternoon on tne steamer Breakwater for his home. NORTH BEND NEWS The Wilhelmina camo late evening from Bandon. last Tho Echo Is to have a new mast put In before taking on her cargo at the Porter and North Bend mills. Mrs. E. E. Hayes and daughter, Flossie, left this morning to visit Mrs. Hayes' mother, Mrs. Brown, at Coqulllo City. The North Bend water front has a very active appearance owing to the fact that so many vessels are there at present. Among the number are: The Marcona, Barken. Chehalls, Re dondo, Omega, Breakwater, Wllhel mlna and many small launches. The North Bend Women of Wood craft gave a very enjoyable social at Taylor hall last evening. It was a "nut spread," nearly every eatable in which nuts could be used being served to the guests. The proceeds will go towards paying for a now piano for tho lodge. The success of the event Is largely due to a commit tee composed of Miss Anna Wyatt, B. Gilmore, H. Harris, Chas. Wor rell and Mrs. G. E. Mickey. The Lincoln Centenary program at Eckhoff hall Friday afternoon was largely attended. Tho program as printed In The Times was success fully carried out, the various num bers being of unusual merit and were enthusiastically applauded. Miss Winifred Rood's piano selections and Miss Ethel Metzler's presentation of Lincoln's Gettysburg address were especially good. W. E. Thorp, who presided as chairman highly praised tho pupils of the North Bend schools who were present for their attentlve ness and for the spirit shown. I Personal Notes C. E. Tho exact date has not been fixed yet owing to tho uncertainty as to the time that certain Improvements in the club rooms can bo completed. The men will be the hosts and It will probably be a progressive card party. Refreshments will bo servod. Jas. Allen, Peter Logglo and Dr. Bur mister are the members of the House Committee. Social Interest at present rather centers In the opening banquet of the' Chandler Hotel from 6 to 9 o'clock Monday evening. While there will be no formal program, It will take on the nature of a reception and will probably be a dress affair. An or chestra has been engaged and tho event promises to bo a most delight ful one from a social standpoint aside from marking an important era in Coos Bay's development. Several small par tlos have been savored of tho day and tonight the Swastika Club will glvo a Valentine ball In the I. O. O. F. hall. Tho Ladles' Art Club met Friday afternoon at the lfome of Mrs. C. W. McCulloch. Following tho business session, tho members enjoyed a "Val entine Exchange." Refreshments woro served by tho hostess, the din ing room being prettily decorated with hearts and valontlnes. Next Friday afternoon tho club will meet with Mrs. George Shelly. Tho rogular monthly business meeting of the Epworth League was held at tho M. E. Church parlors Wednesday evening, and was largely attended. Following the completion of tho business, Rev. and Mrs. H. I. Rutledge entertained at the parsonage. Various games were plaed until a lato hour when delici ous refreshments were served. A novel nnd enjoyable feature of tho evening was some mind reading demonstrations by Arthur Drows, president of the league. Mrs. Olivia Edman entertained a few friends at her home Tuesday af ternoon. Among her guests woro Mrs. Brlggs, Mrs. Lang, Miss Mabel Lang and Mrs. John Bear. Mrs. D. J. Rees entertained a few friends Friday afternoon, In honor ot her sister-in-law, Mrs. W. A. Sned don. The afternoon was spent In music and conversation. A dainty lunch was served by the hostess. Mrs. L. M. Noble entertained tho Evergreen Whist Club at her homo last Saturday afternoon. Miss Lyon, a visitor, won first honors and Mrs. Rolandson received second prize. The club Is being entertained this afternoon by Mrs. F. P. Norton. The A. N. W. Club was entertained Thursday afternoon by Mrs. F. M. Frledburg. No particular business came up and the afternoon was large ly a social one. Refreshments were served. The club will meet next Thursday at tho E. G. Flanagan home. Lecture Good One. Despite the Inclement weather last ovenlng, there was a fair audience at the First Bap tist church to hear Rev. CleVlnger's lecture on Abraham Lincoln. It was the only observation of tho Lincoln centenary In Marshflold. Tho Rev. Mr. Clevlnger's address was an ex cellent one,- being both entertaining and Instructive.
