Chas Scadding to Be Guest of Local Episcopalians October 4. Bishop Charles Scadding of the Episcopal diocese of Western Oregon, will make hfs annual visit to Marsb- fleld Sunday, October 4, and will probably spend a week or more In this section. Plans for the building' of an episcopal church at North Bend and organizing other Episcopal con gregations in the Coos Bay country will probably bo submitted to him during his visit, He will probably bo the guest of J. W. Bennett, a close personal friend, during his stay here. It has not been decided yet wheth er there will be a confirmation class for him in Maishfleld this year or not. A class is being Instructed at North Bend. Bishop Scadding recently attended the international Episcopal conven tion at London to which Bennett Swanton of Marshfield, was also a delegate. Quite a number of salmon were caught In the lower bay yesterday, the season run just starting. It Is expected the run this year will be heavier than for sometime although the reopening of the cannery at Empire is likely to make a hoavy drain on the fish be fore the pleasure seeking fisheimen get a chance at them. Makes Charges Agninst Goss, Geo Goodrum Is threatening to In stitute a charge of attempted larceny of a fine salmon against John D. Goss. Mr. Goodrum says he caught the salmon while trolling In the Bay Sunday and that Goss who was In a boat behind his got hold of his (Goodruro's) line and attempted to secme the fish but was unsuccessful. Get Souvenirs From Alaska. Mrs. Emil Ogren and children have just received some fine souvenirs from Mrs, Ogren's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fox, formerly of Coos Bay but now residents of Alaska. Many of tho gifts are jewelry, gold nuggets being used largely In their makeup. All are symbolical of tho now gold fields and are highly prized by the recipients. R. T. DURETT and W. U. DOUGLAS of the Coos Bay Home Telephone Company, went to Portland to ar range matters concerning the transfer of the local exchanges and lines of the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company to tho new company and also to arrange for the Improvements which are pro posed to be made. Tho Bar bers of Marshfield have issued a challenge to the bartenders of tho city for a ball game to bo played here Sunday, September 13, tho proceeds to go to charity. McKeown Says Marshfield Won and North Bend Cap tain Claims Worth Bend WortJ One of tho best ball games' that has been seen on the North Bend grounds this season was witnessed Sunday when the Marshfield and North Bond clubs recruited from the amateur material on the Bay strug gled for honors in the postponed game that marked tho close of tho. Coos County League Season. For toi innings, tho teams put up a fine tlclo of ball but the eleventh Inning brought a vaudeville finish. Man ager McKeown declares that Marsh field won by a score of five to three, the North Bond captain says that North Bend won by a score of dlx to five and tho umpire is studying the rules to ascertain what did happen. " Thero was a good crowd out. Man ager McKeown only had McCutcheon, James Cowan and Nelch and himself but picked up five North Bend young men who demonstrated that they could play ball. Tho Marshfiold line up was McCutcheon lb, Cowan, C. Nelch 3b, McKeown, S. S., Foote p, Strickland cf, Holllng rf, O. Gaffney If and D. Hull 2b.
