Carroll, junior United States engineer, arrived this morn ing from Portland to make preli minary arrangements for tho gov ernment dredge which will nrrive lioro within a few days to improve tho harbor and channel. Mr, Car roll's purpose Is to consult with lead ing local citizens and contributors to tho fund to secure tho drertgn nM will then report to Major Mclndoo, engineer in charge, on tho situation. Mr. Carroll said this morning that ho did not feel at liberty to make any statement concerning tho plans for tho dredgo. Ho said ho was hero to Investigate and leport his findings to Major Mclndoe. Ho would con sult with tho local people and try and conform with tholr wishes so far as practicable. Mr. Carroll Is thoroughly familiar With conditions hero, having once represented tho government In tho T Attend GOVERNMENT ENGINEER HERE Coqulllo river work and a yenr tigo made tho government survey of Coos Bay harbor and bar. The dredgo has not been accepted , ty tho government yet but probably will bo within a few days. Meeting Tonight. In order to facilitate matters, Secrotary Lyon of tho Chamber of Commorco, has called a mooting of the contributors to tho dredge fund and tho owners of proporty who wIbIi to have It filled by the dredgo to bo held this ovoning. Mr. Carroll will bo thoro nnd talk tho matter over with them and give some Instructions as to tho proper manner of bulk heading. Rev, G. S.
