They will find the grounds in better condition and more attractive than ever before. They will find many new buildings. All in all, they will see that Coos Bay has the best facilities of any section of the Southwest Oregon for holding a big fair. The increased cash premiums and specials will bring the greatest live stock show ever seen on the coast, and it will compare favorably with the best fairs of any section of the west. Some of the best horses on the coast will be here to participate in the speed program. Some of the most attractive purses ever hung up for a fair race meet will make each individual event worth coming a long distance to see. The counties will put up their best in trying to secure the prizes for the exhibits of their products. There will be special rates on all lines of transporta tion for passengers and special freight inducements for all exhibits. The Hahatonka Club is preparing to close Its vacation and a meeting of the members has been called for tonight to arrange a dance or picnic. DR. T. G. HARRIMAN of Long Beach, Cal., who Is well-known on Coos Bay, returned today from Ten Mile where he has been en joying a few days hunting and fishing. He secured a good string of fish. The show er last evening and yesterday is be- lloved to have extinguished the forest flro that has been smouldering at several points on the peninsula since the blaze of a few weeks ago. The fire occasional broke out Into a blaze and was feared by some of tho prop erty owners. Nairn Smith In The Nann Smith arrived last night from Bay Point where she took a cargo of lum ber for the Smith mill. C. A. Smith, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Oren and baby Mrs. A. H. Powers and Misses Hazel and Lury Powers returned on her, Mrs. Oren and baby just coming from Minneapolis where they have spent the summer with relatives. O. B. HINSDALE of Gardiner, was in Marshfield today to meet his sister, Mrs. M. S. Huffman, who will visit him for several weeks. Mrs. Huffman formerly resided at Merced, Cal., but has recontly been making her home In San Fran cisco. Mr. Hinsdale says that everything is going nicely at Gar diner. Last evening Coos Bay experienced ono of the earliest fall rains that It has known In years. A third of an inch fell. Mrs. E. Mingus, government meteorolo gical observer, said today that such a heavy fall of rain was very unusual in August, tho regular time being In September. Tho rain did much more good than harm by eliminating the dust and freshening vegetation. Evciir.siou to Bandon. The M. W. A. lodges of tho county, have arrang ed for a big picnic and clam bako on the beach at Bandon for Sunday, August 10. A special train will bo run from Marshfleld to accommodate tho Marshfleld, North Bend and Em pire members and their friends. The train will make connection with ex cursion boats from Myrtle Point and Coqullle. It is expected that tho event will be one of tho biggest and most enjoyable of tho kind over given in the county. A largo number aro planning to go from Marshfleld. Ulnny Enjoy Picnic. Tho Presby terian congregation's picnic on Coos River yesterday was onjoyed by about soventy-flvo. Tho usual picnic festivities prevailed. It rained more up tho river than on tho Bny and In consequently some of tho party In tho open launches woro dronchod. En routo up, tho party saw a young deer near tho river bank. Tho deer was qulto tamo and was greatly admired by all. En routo homo, tho picnlo party saw a couple of hunters carrying tho vonl- AT THE THEATRE. Georgia Harper scored another hit at tho Masonic Opera House last night In her presentation of "Zaza." Miss Harper's acting in this difficult character was above criticism and her gowns the most elegant over seen on a local stage. Mr. Detrick. and tho balance of tho company played their parts well, and a good sized audience was in attendance in spite of the rainy evening. Tonight, tho sparkling comedy, "All Tho Com forts of Home," will bo presented and Is claimed to bo one of tho very best comedy plays ever written.
