Negotiations that have been pend ing lor sometime have been com pleted whereby' Robert Marsden, Sr., disposes of one-half Interest In his wholesale and retail liquor business to W. P. Rau, late of New York Tho transaction Includes the two 'wholesale liquor houses, one In Marshfleld and one In B'andon, five saloons, the brewery and the Weln fcard beer agency. The new concern will be a co-partnership under the firm-name of the Coos Bay Liquor -Company. Mr. Marsden found that the busi ness was demanding more time than lio could give It and some one to sTiarq the responsibilities of the busi ness became necessary. The new firm, which will be under tho active management of Mr. Rau, plans to make extensive improve ments and will enlarge the wholesale department. "Work of remodeling the present quarters of the whole sale establishment has already been commenced. It will be increased to three times its present capacity and an ice-making plant installed to ma nufacture their own ice. Carrie Withers and Annie Monroe, two Philadelphia young ladies board ing at a farm house near this place, ran across a rattlesnake and put it out of business with chewing-gum. MIs3 Withers took a long stick and placing the gum on the end shoved It toward the snako, which struck at it, getting the gum in Its mouth. The j reptile tried to expel It, but the; more It tried the firmer it seemed to take hold. Finally it rolled on the grass j as if choking, and the young women , called a farm hand, who killed It.
