THE BUSINESS
Boberts Marsden, Sr., Sells
Half-Interest to W. F.
Raw.
Negotiations that have been pend

pleted whereby' Robert Marsden, Sr.,
disposes of one-half Interest In his
wholesale and retail liquor business
to W. P. Rau, late of New York
Tho transaction Includes the two
'wholesale liquor houses, one In
Marshfleld and one In B'andon, five
saloons, the brewery and the Weln
fcard beer agency. The new concern
will be a co-partnership under the
firm-name of the Coos Bay Liquor
-Company.
Mr. Marsden found that the busi
ness was demanding more time than
lio could give It and some one to
sTiarq the responsibilities of the busi
ness became necessary.
The new firm, which will be under
tho active management of Mr. Rau,
plans to make extensive improve
ments and will enlarge the wholesale
department. "Work of remodeling
the present quarters of the whole
sale establishment has already been
commenced. It will be increased to
three times its present capacity and
an ice-making plant installed to ma
nufacture their own ice. They also
will put three traveling men on the
jroad to develop the jobbing end of
tho business.

Carrie Withers and Annie Monroe,
two Philadelphia young ladies board
ing at a farm house near this place,
ran across a rattlesnake and put it
out of business with chewing-gum.
MIs3 Withers took a long stick and
placing the gum on the end shoved
It toward the snako, which struck at
it, getting the gum in Its mouth. The j
reptile tried to expel It, but the; more
It tried the firmer it seemed to take
hold. Finally it rolled on the grass j
as if choking, and the young women ,
called a farm hand, who killed It.
The gum had wound about the
snake's fangs until It was unable to
open Jts jaws.

COOS BAY BAKERY
PRIDE O'HUMHOLDT.
The Humboldt Brewing Co. did
not build the brewery and bring the
water to it. They found the water
and put the building there. That's
why the Pride O'Huraboldt Beer is
so popular with all northern Califor
nia. It Is browed and bottled under
tho same roof not carried for miles
in a keg and transferred thereby
losing the sparkle and body so ne
cessary to a llKht. clear. pleasant
beer. Tho Blanco Hotel carries it
so does Tho Pullman Bar. It does-1
n't cost any more to take a dozen j
witn you on a picnic, than any other
beer and you'll clamor for the next
dozen. Just try It once. Pride
O'Humboldt.
