City Council Tonight The Marsh fleld city council will hold its regular session this evening. A number of street improvement matters will come up for discussion. Large Strawberries. Mrs. C. E. Potter of Ross' Inlet, today placed on exhibition at the Chamber of Commerce, a specimen of Excelsior strawberries of which eleven filled a box. They are declared to be the finest ever grown here. Kills Two Panthers. George Gould of North River, killed two panthers the other day. The ani mals had been making severe in roads on his sheep and taking a gun and a couple of dogs he soon found them. In addition to stopping the ravages on his flock of sheep and getting the skins, he will receive a good bounty on them. Working On Ranch. Claude Stutsman writes that he is now work ing on a big ranch at Buford, Wyo. Buford is at an elevation of over 8,000 feet. He says there is1 plenty of work there. He Is running a steam plow and receiving $5 per day. He expects to remain there a few weeks and will then visit other points In that section and return to Marsh fleld in the fall to resume his school work. LAMP BLACK. A baby girl has arrived at tho homo of Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Miller. Will Caughell and Chauncey Woodruff were out fishing last night, getting thirty-six, which is the most any boat has gotten yet. It Is ex pected there will be a good run of salmon from now on. M. Doyle has received a commun ication from tho wool firm with which he deals and Is' not able to draw much encouragement from its import. The opinion expressed - by, Mr. Doyle Is that Curry county farm ers may not expect to realize as good prices as tlioy, did In 1907. John Woodworth had tho misfor tune to break the propeller on his launch laBt Sunday. Ed. Huitt now takes the mail over tho trail again. Mr. Woodworth thinks that steam boating is about over for this Bum mer, as the riffles are getting very shallow. Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Thresher, wjio had been residents of Wedderburn for the past year and a half, depart ed for eastern Oregon tho fore part of tho week. During the time Mr. Thresher had charge of tho Rad'um as its editor, Mr. Thresher desired to' enter a different field, and bo pur poses to eventually locate In Echo, where ho will take up newspaper work again. In their iemoval, Wed derburn loses a family it had learn ed to esteem for true worth. Personal Notes J. D. GOSS went to Coqullle on busi ness today. R. HANDEL of Ten Mile, Is a Marsh fleld visitor today. A DR. GEO. E. DIX went to Coqullle this morning on business. JOHN KRONHOLM has gone to San Francisco to spend his vacation. He will also visit other California points before returning. MISS MIRIAM VAN WATERS, who has been the guest of Miss Alico McCormac the past week will leave tomorrow via Roseburg for her home in Portland. MRS. JACK DIRKS of Porter, left on the M. F. Plant to visit rela tives in San Francisco whom she has not seen since shortly after the earthquake. '' WESLEY E. SMITH and wife, have arrived on Coos Bay from Battle Creek, Mich., and expect to mako their future home here. Mr. Smith is an electrician. JAMES MORTIMER, well known to pioneer residents of Coos Bay and Coos River, returned yesterday; after an absence of twenty years or more. He may remain here. GEORGE McCUTCHEON returned yesterday from Carlton, Oregon,, where he was called a few weeks ago by the death of his father. He will resume his position with Masters and McLain at once and also his position on the Marshfleld baseball team. JAY MAHONEY has returned from Ten Mile where he spent tho Fourth of July. He says that the 1 celebration there was a great, suc" eess and-that it' was participated in byan unusually large number; the crowd being greater than had ' been anticipated. ' 1 . CHAS. C, DORR. proprietor of "The Celtic" at Tonopah, Nev., and "The Lindsay" at Millers, Nev., two leading hotels of that section, is on Coos Bay with a view of in vesting here. He Is very favorably impressed with the pros- pects of this section. ROY MOORE will leave tomorrow for his homestead on Fall Creek.
