That Oregon Is fortunate In Its delegation at Washington Is the opin ion of Railroad Commissioner Os wald West who recently returned from the national capital, where he was summoned as a witness In the land fraud trials. West Is a well known public official, having come to public notice because of Ills ener getic administration of the affairs of tho State Land Office while ho was in charge of that department. He Is a Democrat, and an observing man, hence his opinion of a Republican delegation is particularly interesting. In an interview after his return ho said that ho learned thnt Senator Fulton stands high In the estimation of his fellow senators and that Sen ator Bourne has made many friends while there. In hpeaklng bf the posi tion of Congressman Hawley at Washington, ho made use of the fol lowing expressive language: "When I visited the House of Rep resentatives and saw the crowd that Congressman Hawley h'as to asso ciate with, I really felt ashamed. In Intellect, oratorical nullify and devo tion to tho Interests of tho people, Hawley stands head and shoulders abovo tho great majority of tho mem bers of the National House of Repre sentatives. You haven't any Idea what Inferior men some states send to congress. Of course, there aro a few able men there, but Hawley is far abovo tho average. You can toll that by just looking at tho faces of tho congressmen and watching their actions." It Is gratifying to tho peoplo of Oregon to know that their represen tatives at Washington aro tho equals or superiors of men sent to Wash ington from other states. A CARD. Ul0 conuuUco on jib uoioniou oy souato, but Sen-I- public lauds In tho atct Fulton took up the matter and secured the passage of a measure through congress to obtain the same result. I secured an appropriation of $20,000 for the construction and maintainance of fish hatcheries in the coast streams south of the Col umbia river, a bill to prevent the kill ing of elk, but this was vetoed by our Democratic governor. I Introduced and secured the passage of several other bills. In addition to the above I supported the measures relating to our p'lubllc schools and In rt.gultlon of my services in securing the pas sage of these measures, State Super intendent Ackerman and other lead ing educators of our state, sent me a personal letter of thanks. There was a great demand for a Rail Road Commission, and I worked hard in helping to secure the passage of a law creating such comission. I have in mind several matters of legislation for which I shall labor if elected, which have already been pub lished in the Coos Bay Times of the 29th, and in the Coquille Sentinel of recent date, and in the Port Orford Tribune a short time ago. My past experience In the House j would be of much value to me In the Senate and would enable me to ac complish much better results than could be obtained by one without such experience. W. C. CHASE to the Voters of coos curry counties. AND Having at the solicitation of a large number of voters of the above named counties been Induced to pre sent my petition for your support for the position of Joint Senator In the State Legislature, I deem It my duty to declare my political principles that those who are unacquainted with me may not be deceived. My first ballot was cast for Abraham Lincoln and I have been a consistent supporter of the Republican party since that time. My idea of lav,- making is to construct those that will preserve the greatest individual liberty consistent with the rights of the whole body of the peo ple and if elected will endeavor to represent them to the best of my ability. I have no axe to grind or friends to favor or enemies to pun ish. R. D. HUME. TRY South Marshffeld coal. O'nce tried, always used. Phone 817. Public TO LIB unday, After Sunday School, J. It is gratifying to me to know the Coquille Valley people appreciated the man who sees so clearly the great future of this county. You may publish this statement both far and wide: Bandon and the Coquille Valley to Myrtle Point, Is the backbone of Coos county, and Coos Bay Is the heart and lungs. Myrtle Point some day will have one building, which will cost more for its construction than the whole townslte has cost to date. The pala tial homes of the Coos Bay and Ban don merchants and manufacturers will loom up on the hills, surround ing the present townslte. Coquille will have a sanatorium, which, in importance and as a developing In fluence, will out-weigh all of their other resources. Invalids and health seekers cannot live on the sea shore, but with their home hotel at Co quille, and the resort on the Bandon beach, their chances for recovery, and return to robust health, is great er than at any other point in the United States or Canada. As for Bandon, I have this to say: A seaport city of 25,000 will be on our map In a very few years. There Is no Bandon man today who has so clear a conception of his city's future as I have. I regard Bandon as the best point on the Pacific coast today for men of youth, energy and a few thousand dollars, to commence at once in, much safer and better than Coos Bay. As all things to be great in size and power, spread out fast, thus debilitating their strength, for con centrated action, Coos Bay city site Is vast, and she has a number of controlling points, two of which can hold their grip a short time, but just long enough to confuse capital, and to be fatal to a small operator; in short, the changing of centers In Coos Bay will crush hundreds of men and blast the hopes of thou sands of the small Investors; but for the man of great foresight and heavy money power, Coos Bay's real estate Is a hundred to one better than Ban don. Many of our Coos Bay men would do better to sell out at once and go to Bandon. As one proof is worth 1,000 arguments, I will give you the proof of my assertion. Now, you must think carefully of what I say; IN LIBBY At 3:30 P. M. Meeting BYM May do not idiotically yell hot air. My harshest criticism of tho people of this country Is their disposition to denounce any good expression which they do not understand as hot air. I will call the turn on future devel opment (which Is against my own Interest financially); Coos Bay Is destined to have a large seaport city, a commercial metropolis; Bandon Is so compact that no man need to change his first location; they can tell just as well today where they are at as when the city Is fully devel oped. Bandon will have the great est seaside resort on the coast, on ac count of its central location and Its even climate. Its bar and entrance can be made with small outlay to pass any of the coastwise shipping; Coos Bay people can help themselves more by helping Bandon to Myrtle Point; as the average new comer will do better for himself and the country to locate there. Unlike Portland, our Coos Bay people must help build up the surrounding country before they begin establishing the mercan tile Institutions in keeping with her great seaport. It will be to your interest as well as mine that I get a good vote In your part of tho country. My only pledge to you is that my conduct will always be consistent with the atti tude expressed In this letter. Thank ing you In advance for your earnest support, which will make me your next representative, I am sincerely yours, L. D. KINNEY. We will store your goods for lc cubic feet.
