The farowell concert by the brid ges Qunrtette at the Masonic Opera house last evening, was given to a crowded house which showed its ap preciation of the excellent program by frequent applause and encores. The program was one of the best and most entertaining that has ever been presented to a Coos Ray audience Last night's entertainment mark ed the conclusion of the organiza tion's work here which Included the organfrntton and starting of chor uses at the Methodist Episcopal churches In North Rend and Marsh fle'.d. Largo choruses have been or ganized in both cities and the mem bers of both are very much pleased with what has been accomplished. Should the quartette return to Marshfleld again, they will find a ready welcome awaiting them by those who have had the opportunity to attend their entertainment and listen to their programs this time. A large number of people on Coos Bay are reported to be suffering from ton silitis. None of the cases are seri ous. Shingle Mill Sold. Word was re ceived here today that Messrs. Wade and Hollopeter of Bandon, head a syndicate which has purchased the Bandon Shingle mill property. Has Scarlet Feer. Mrs. Far rlnger's home on Broadway near 'C street, wis quarantined this morn ing owing to her little daughter, Ur sula, being taken ill of scarlet fever. Tho numerous friends of the little miss hope for early recovery. Boats Leave Today. The tug Hunter came in from Gardiner last night with a load of produce, return ing this morning laden with merchan dise. Tlie Robarts, towing the May flower, also left this morning for the Siuslaw. Call It La Crosse Park. Messrs. C. W. Tower, I. R. Tower, G. W. Carleton, Edward Donnelly and James Baines returned last night from South Coos river where they were inspecting the Witto tract which they and other local men re cently bought. It was decided to divide it into various sized small tracts. It will be known as La Crosse park, and Dr. C. W. Captain Boyce of tho Life Saving station at Coos Bay, returned after a visit with relatives and friends nt Bandon on Mondny. Mrs. .1. C. Varney and daughter, Mrs. A. W. Kelley of this city, vis ited friends at the bay tho latter part of last week, returning Monday. D. II. Johnson, who has been suf fering from rheumatism of late, went to Bandon Monday to take tho steam er Elizabeth for San Francisco. He will try California for change. Mrs. A. J. Sherwood and daugh ter Claro of this city, went to the bay by Saturday's train. They wont to visit Mrs. Sherwood's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rogers of Coos river. Miss Gladys Gage of this city, who has been at Santa Rosa, Cal., at tending business college, returned by tho last Breakwater. Sho was met at tho bay by her mother and sister Bonnie. PROCTOR of San Francisco, is visiting at the J. H. Flanagan home In this city. L. A. McDONALD of Gardiner, is spending a few days on Coos Bay visiting friends and looking after business. P. C. PETERSON, from the Flat Head valley, Montana, Is on Coos Bay investigating its resources and advantages with a view to locating here. W. G. MADDEN WHO has just com pleted a contract on the new building of the First Trust and Savings bank, left this morning via Drain for his home In Port land. HUGH McLAIN has returned from Coquille where he was completing settlement for contract for cement sidewalks around the county court house, which the firm of Masters & McLain recently finished. C. W. WOLCOTT, tho well-known grocer, has departed on an ex tended vacation trip to Los An geles and other points In tho south. During his absence, tho store will be In charge of James Gray. DAVID ROBERTS, the well-known pioneer of Empire City, was In Marshfleld today 'visiting friends. Ho is planning on going to Eu ropo for an extended stay late this summer. In case, ho has to glvo up the European trip, ho expects to spend the late summer and fall with a daughter In tno Coqulllo valley. G. T. Robison returned from Port land last week with friends direct from Missouri. There were Jas. Mod lock and family, Jas. Plummer and fnmily, W. E. Cleghorn and wife and Will Rinehart. W. M. Kay from RIverton and Surveyor Cathcart passed through this city Monday to the Myrtle Point section where they wero joined by Georgo Griflln of Gravel Ford. They did some road viewing and surveying on tho upper river and are now In this section doing the same kind of work. Mrs. J. E. Medio and Mrs. Chas. Ilayter of tho lower river, arrived by tho last Plant from San Francisco, and proceeded through this city Mon day to their respectlvo homes, they had been to Ilanford, California, for several weeks, visiting relatives and friends. They wero met at this placo by tho former's husband. S. S. Endicott of near Myrtle Point, has been called to Portland on tho account of the Illness of his son, Chas. Endicott, who was In that city attending a dental college. It was thought for a while that there was no show for tho young man, but tho last word from tho nurso was that there might bo a ray of hope for his recovery. Ho had Just undergono a second operation for appendicitis. Tho young man's many relatives and friends of this placo and Myrtle Point will anxiously await further news.
