The steamship Breakwater left out this morning for Portland with a load of passengers and quite an amount of freight. Among the pas sengers were quite a number of busi ness men from the Coqullle valley, who are on their way to the city to make arrangements for the new year's business. Without any ex ception the prevailing opinion of the business men Is that this spring will see even more business than ever before. The following was the list of passengers: A. Hanson, Miss D. Millicoma's Handsome New Quarters Nearing Completion To Have Ladies' Night. Chairman E. K. Jones, of the house committee of the Mlllicomu club, an nounced yesterday that the open ing of the club's new quarters will bo held next Monday night, when a strictly club membership will be in vited to attend the flr&t social gath ering in the handsome now quarters. The formal opening will b he' 1 a fow days later when the ladle3 will bo Invited. A regular program will bo arranged for the night devoted to tho ladles. Tho houso committee, composed of Messrs. Jones, William Ford and Dr. Hayden, has been working Indofatig ably for the past ten days to have tho rooms completed as soon us pos r!b,r. While great progress has been made, there were several shipments awaiting tho arrival of tho Break water this morning, but now every thing will be complete by Monday ia tHic for the club opening. CHRISTIAN CHURCH Tho Chrlst tlan church will hold Its regular ser"ices in tho Lutheran hall on B street, next Sunday, morning and evening. Elder E. W. Barns, of Bandon, will preach both morning and evening. Sunday school at 10 o'clock, and preaching at 11 o'clock in the morning. The eve ning services will be held at the usual evening hour. Speaking of tho now steamer tho Nautical Unzottu of December 2G, says: Tho now steamer Nan Smith, launched iu October at Newport News for tho C. A. Smith Lumber Co., of St. Paul, .Minn., has loaded 3,100 tons of coal at Port CoWngton, ami isturted ou hor m.ildon ojago to b.iu Francisco. Sho was built for tho Pacific coast lumbor trade ond will bo known there as n bteani schooner. Her engines, boilers and otllcors quarters nro located aft, and her cargo capacity, Including deckload, is 2.22C.000 foot of lumber. Tho steamer Is 2 S3 foot long, 43 feot beam, and 21 feet dopth of hold. Sho is driven by n single screw triple expansion engine capable of develop ing 1,350 borso power.
