New Banking Institution, Mr. D. D. Pagan of tho Norrls Safe, nature. The compound door is In and Lock company of Portland and tegral, or two doors In 6$o swinging Seattle yesterday Installed in the on one hinge. The dooxjs made o? lewi'uiuw 4"i' "' ine Fisrt Trust and Saving Dank of this city f ,i i... one of. tho Ely; patent compound door special lanard Manganese steel bank safes, manufactured by the Ely Korrls Safe company, of Perth Am boy, N. J. Tho members of this banking house are well known in Marshfleld and their enterprise Is be coming a great aid In tho progress of the country. Following is a description of tho safe: Steel Manard Mangnneso Steel Is the highest grade of Manganese metal In tho world. The Penn sylvania Steel Co., its makers, are recognized as tho leading manufac turers of this metal and their facili ties aro unsurpassed. Manard Manganese Steel is made by the open Learth process under a special formula and provides the qualities particularly required in solid safo construction. It possesses in tho highest degree qualities which give strength combined with tough ness, rendering it proof against con cussion and explosives. It is drill proof and non-magnetic. Casting Tho body of our safe is cast in one piece, approximately three inches thick and is spherical in form, thus giving unlimited protection against force; the scheme being recognized as tho strongest shape in can be changed without removing tho lock from its position. Tho inner portion of door is provided with two double movement time locks control ling a dqad lock automatic bolt motor, which in turn, controls lock ing bolts which fit into bolt holes located at tho extreme Innc pdge of jambs. Wo provide four time move ments, anyone of which will operate the bolt motor should the otheis stop When the safe Is locked neither the combination lock nor the bolt motor alone will release the door, bolt must operate to withdraw all of tho lock ing bolts. The combination lock has two spindles of Manard Manganese Steel. Theso spindles pass through the outer portion of tho compound door only and abutt against the tinner portion and aro locked in position with re versed threaded nuts. The inner por tion is solid, without spindle or other hole of any kind. We avoid the use of spindles through the Inner por tion of door for the reason that, no matter how closely a spindle is fitted, enough space must be left to rotate it and this allows an opening for the Introduction of liquid explosives. Lugs In addition to the above mentioned locking devices we use the bayonet Joint, made with solid lugs, of Manard Manganese Steei, on door and body. When tho door is rotated to Its locked position the lugs of the door are Interlocked with those on tho jamb and these cannot be re leased until tho combination lock and PERSONAL MENTION. Construction The Jamba of tho door and body are ground and lapped with emery and oil to a metal to metal nt, making practically a steam tight joint to prevent tho In troduction of liquid explosives. Should the outer portion of the door bo attacked, the explosion chamber would provide air-space to absorb the concussion. Tho two portions of the door are connected through this ex plosion chamber and, if it were pos sible to remove the outer portion, theso connections would give way and the inner portion would remain, giving them, as great protection as is provided in any other safe in the market. Locking Device In tho explosion chamber, and attached to the outer portion of door, is placed a doublo dial combination lock, either dial of which will operate this lock. This combination lock controls bolts which fit into the Jamb and this gives not only protection, but also provides a day-lock which can be operated quickly In case of a day light raid or other emergency requir ing that the safo bo locked instantly. This lock is made with a key changing device so that combination tho automatic bolt motor are releas ed, thus making tho door a solid component part of tho sale. Hinge The door swings on crane hinges with geared machanism to rotate it and force it to its seat. The hinge has ball and roller bearings at all points of contact and is provided with adjusting screws, horizontal and vertical, capable of adjustment to the finest point Conclusion We, therefore, pres ent, the following points of superior ity in our safe: Tho Metal Tho highest grade Managaneso Steel In the world. Compound Door uiving double protection. Combination Lock An entirely new principal with key changing de vice. Four Time Movements Render ing lockout practically impossible. Automatic Bolt Motor A dead lock, avoiding the use of spindles and allowing door to be made per fectly solid. Bayonet Joint Making a prac tical unit of strength of body and door. Workmanship Unsurpassed. Finish The highest degree. In other words, wo combine all the best points of strength provided In all other safes and in addition, our great feature of strength Ely's patent compound door, making good our claim that our safo Is the strongest safe in the world. yesterday.
