BOAT IS VALUED AT $40,000 Conniniiy Hiis Hud III Tiiiuk With ivutniu r.iiffit.'. Tin I'T.'ftut fin Louis Loss $ 15,000. According to the- San Francisco I Chronicle, the schooner Advent has ; been wrecked In ,a collusion. Tho boat IS owned by the Simpson Lumber Company nnd left Coos Day July 2, bound for San Francisco with a load ot Simpson lumber. Tho boat Is valued at approximately $40,000 and is about eight years old. Tho Simpson Lumber Company has been unfortunate with Its boats of late. It was on Thursday, Juno 20, that the barkontlne Louis, valued at about $45,000, was wrecked off tho Farrallono Islands). This vessel had not been In Coos Day for some years. Following Is the -Chronicle's account of the accident to tho Advent: "Tho schooner Advent, lumber laden, which was wrecked attwo o'clock on Saturday morning by col liding with the steamer Sonoma off Mendocino City, was towed Into port yesterday afternoon by the steam schooner Gtmlala, only her watcr soaked cargo keeping her afloat. "Captain Olsen, master of tho wrecked schooner, angrily refused to make any statement with reference ot the disaster. lie did say, how over, that Captain Cousins of the steamer Sonoma was a perfect gen tleman and had treated him with evc-r.V consideration. "First Officer Kilward nutzing of the schooner Gaalala, which towed tho disabled schoonor into port, made tho following statement: " 'We were bowling along under a favorable wind about 3 o'clock In tho afternoon when wo heard tho Sono rca's whistles of distress and at once made our way to tho scene of the disaster. Arriving there, wo found the Sonoma with tho wrecked Advent in tow, and as soon as wo hove to wero boarded. by tho first officer of the Sonoma, who requested our cap tain to visit Captain Cousins aboard the Sonoma. Captain Kyellen at once compiled, and an hour later returned and commanded us to prepare to take the damaged schooner in tow, which we did by picking up tho hawser cast off by tho Sonoma. We would not have attempted to tow her into port but for the fact that her cargo was lumber and so thoroughly water soaked that It was Impossible for her to sink. Wo experienced very little trouble In getting her to port. "First Ofllcer Butzing said that tho damage to the Sonoma was slight, consisting only of the breaking of her forward stanchions. When the collision came the jlbboom of tho Advent fell across the Sonoma's bow, and this part of the wreckage was left where it had fallen, being moved slightly to bo out of tho way of the deckhands. "The injuries to the Advent arc ex tensive, consisting In the loss of her bow and jlbboom as completely as though severed with a huge knife. Her forward and main masts were broken, tho mizzen boom is gone and the port bok missing. The clothes of two sailors who slept forward were lost in the wreckage and tho men themselves narrowly escaped death, as they wero In their bunks at the time. "The Advent was taken in tow by the red stack tugs Sae Lark and Lib erty when-she had passed tho heads and was towed to an anchorage near China Basin. About $15,000 will bo required to put tho schooner in re pair again. The loss is fully covered by Insurance." Guest of Blanco Hotel Becomes Partially Demented-Wife Grief Stricken.
