Herman, manager for the Mad rus Lumber Company, has let the contract for a dwelling house on south Muin street, near the city well nnd work on the building is well along, Mrs. L. H. Hamilton and daughter and Miss McKenzie of Grizzly were in Madras Tuesday. They are preparing to go to Hood River next week to spend some time in the berry fields. County Surveyor Fred Rice, and Road Viewers Wells, Grimes and Elliott are in town today, having been engaged in viewing out the changes in the county road between this place and Haycreek, known us the Lex W. Long road. Addison Dennett, editor of the Dalles Optimist and stair correspondent for the Portland Oregonian, who is finish ing u long tour of the interior during which he has written some valuable ar ticles on the country, was in Madras this week. George W. Rankin nnd Miss Delia Z. Sweeting were married a few days ago at Arletn, a suburb of Portland. Both bride and groom arc well known here where they resided until recently, and their many friends unite in wishing them a happy wedded life. George Hess of this city has taken the agency for tho sale of the Martel Vise Root holder and the Martel Blow out Protector, devices used on auto mobile tires. His ad appears else where in this issue. Mr. Hess'B terri tory includes the states of Oregon, Washington und Idaho. Fred Feurerbaeh made a trip to Portland this week, where he purchased u number of pinnos ho hus for Bale. He states that the Eilors Piano House of Portland ia urranging to put a branch house in Madras to supply the Central Oregon trade, and he will act as their agent here. Manager Foster of tho Eilers eompuny is expected here to ninko the necessary arrangements with in u short time.
