After Northern California delegation hoarded our train and crowded our co. ch until there was no standing room for more, there were recitations, speeches and songsof praise until a late hour when they were obliged to disburse for the night. The San OieV" W. C. T t'. entertained thirty one at the home like hotel, Portsmouth. The State Sec'y. and Treasurer had t lie pleasure of being among that number. Here every want waa gratified. We arrived at Ixm Angeles Thursday morning. The convention proper, did not open until Wednesday, so we enjoy ed trip tolling Beach in the afternoon. la the evening a large reception was given to the visitors and members oi convention, at The temperance Temple. The Roatbarg I'laindealer has in creased its size from an eight-column folio to a six-column quarto, and ad ded a Iexter folder and other im proved machinery. The I'laindealer is issued twice a week. We are glad to see it prosper. We are always glad to see a newspaper doing well, but the I'laindealer deserves its success, especially. There is no bet ter or more welcome exchange comes to our table. It is always full of Douglas county news, and is clean and interesting. What the Plair,- dealer is to Douglas county and Roseburg, the Star hopes some day to be to Central Oregon -the leading pa per of its section, and a constant ad vertisement of the county it repre sents. Central Oregon Star. The Roseburg,- (Ore.) Plaindealer, by W. Bi Willis, comes to our sanc tum in an enlarged form. The pro prietor has recently enlarged the size of his very readable publication, and installed a now folding machine, the only one in Southern Oregon, with a capacity of 22.r)0 per hour. Mr. Wil lis has evidently found a splendid field, and he knows how to give his patrons a first-class publication, and his host of freinds here are glad to learn of his success in his new enter prise. The convention closed on Wednesday eveniug with great enthusiasm. To our sur prise, we were met hy white ribboners j with flowers, who invited us to come up .. the I'nity church, where banquet . waa prepared and l'-o plate were i laid. Our train left here at eight o'clock, arriving at San Jose. Westopped for a few hour and took the train for Palo ' Alto, where we visited the great Stan- r I Univeisity and then on to San ' Francisco where we spent Sunday and j Monday. Mr. Marslers arrived home, Hccoiiipanied by Hon. and Mr. F. T. McWhirter and daughter, Susie, ol Indianapolis, Indiana, who will visit in Koreburg for a few day. The W. C. T. U. will give Mr. Mc Whirter a reception Friday afternoon, nt Mrs. 11. It, Marster. Mrs. McWhirter is editor of the Indi ana State paper and also President of the National Editorial Association. Mr. McWhirter is treasurer ol the National Prohibition Party, and wan candidate for governor on that ticket, at the last election. He will speak in the M. E. Church on Friday evening, Nov. 10th.
