The Dominion Company, a woman. In inakin,5 the journey op ! Sheep creek she pressed over the route described by Mr. Harry E. I.;e, in his Ihun ini- trip in lS'.'S. the account af which was published in a number ol the levins eportsinens papers and tnssaiio eS. It describes the river as being filled with Janerous rapids which are almott i nnsurmountible. the very recital ol I which fills oLewith admiration for the coursge and endurance displayed by him in accemplishir.g a feat, which he states in h'u articles, was never before under taken by a white man, and which he de clares the natives entreated Lim almoet wiih tears in their eyes not to under take. Add yet this little woman followed her husband over the route, anJ mod estly disdained any credit for bravery or endcrauce, declsriEg the experience to hive been fraught with more real pleas ure than she ever before experienced from an outing, although she has maJe many jjurnejs with her bosband through the mountaens of Colorado. The fact is that while a j jorney cf this kiud is .i tita an undertaking for a woman, yet Lee's description of the trip sounds ridiculous to a man who knows anything about the rout traversed. While on the trip Mrs. LcW ee UlleJ a black bear and two splendid specimens of the Uighorn eheep, one of which bad as tine a pair of born as I ever saw. I doubt very niuc'i if any other woman bai ever shot a Bighorn in bis native haunts among the ruountfin peals, above the line of everlasting sjow. The voyage down was without fpecial event, the weather during the entire voyage was exceptionally pleasant. e ha 1 unite a large tussenger list composed largely of prospectors returning from Cooks Inlet and the Copper river country. ol about 75 or ryJ returning prospect ors, all but or 10 Irayeled second class, and a number worked their passage down. Ol the number, 00 or more came out of the Copper river country, and the tales which they bsd to relate of dieap- pcintment, privation and sickness was htart rending. From Cook's Inlet came one man with a broken arm, both bones of the upper arm having been shattered some eix weeks previously, during which time the arm bad not been dressed by a physician cr other competent person" lie was without money cr friends in the country except the chance acquaintance of an hour. He wis attempting lo get ta a hospital where bis injuries could be treated. At Urea, on I'rince Williams sounJ, a man was carried ii board, whose suffer- inir and enduranie of hardships, was al most incrediole. While prospecting ni b gome companions somewhere in the interior, near the head waters of the Copier river, a stone rolling down the mountain crushtd bis thigh bone. His companions carried bim 43 miles on a rude litter, through an almost impenetra ble wilderness of mountains, fallen tim ber and glaciers. It required 10 days to reach the Copper river, a distance of 45 miles, it having been necessary to cut a trail al most the enliro distance, through tbe jungle. Aftr reaching the Copper river, a boat was procured ill which tbe party descended the river to the sea, a dinanceof 135 miles, through a course which perhaps has no equal on the con tinent for treacherous whirlpools and rapiJs. With a party which came aboard at Yaldes, was a noble .St. Bernard dog which was found standing guard over the dead bodies of 5 men, who perished with the cold on one of tbe Copper river glacers. For 5 days and nights be bad kept bis solitary vigil without food or drink. There is another dog on the steamer, which was taken from off a part of a wrecked veceel which went to pieces at some point along the coast. Old Wreck, as the dog bs been named, has become attached to the ship and cruw and has made many voyages along (he Alaska coast. New Orca on the trip down we picked up an open boat containing a prospector who had dtitted out to sea from Cooks inlet. For four or five davs and nights be bad where have been iu A a;ka, during the summer. If you want to learn the news, come to Aiizki.
