Die great Joss from the horse disease which has prevailed in the railroad camps durinu the past year should incite our stock men to make a thorough investigation of the disease, and if it prove to be glanders, as man' supposn it to be, no time should be lost in taking steps to 'prevent its further spread in our valley. Horse men all agree that there is no rcure for the glanders, and in countries wherc.the people have had experience with the disease it has became the es tablished rule to kill all animals im mediately upon the discovery that they .are affected with it. Horses with the .glanders should by no means be allowed to mingle uith other stock, or be kept in any public places, where other hors- .ea aro liable to contract the disease from them. The property in horses iu this valley is of sufficient value to warrant a careful investigation of the .disease waich has already caused the deuth of so large a number of them. "Tidings." There is a rumoi .about town that the railroad company .are trying to buy up thn Siskiyou tun nel contract from McBean As Jeffrey, in order to stop the work there, ami that the tunnel contractors asked $50, OOQ in addition to all theexpensn the) had incured to data as a consideration for giving it up. If such is the case, and appearances so indicate, our neighbor will surely have a boom that may last for an indefinite period might possi bly run into years. Tho cause of this is said to be tho action of Congress on the land grant question and the collapse of the. Villard dynastv. The lack of energy on the part of the Cen tral Pacific in trving to form a June tion with this road is acoounted for on the ground that that company wints the wholefoud or nothing and ui less they succeed in this the road will re main as it is as no inducement ls'now offered by land grafts.
