ClItLIOH 1USTIX WHEAT. "Last week wc notioerl tliat Col. John E. lloss liad recently discovered rust in a portion of Lis wheat The "Dong as Independent now comes with a rPtncdy by &'a3fng that, last season, Mr'.L. K-'Hedgpath of Douglas coun- i,od Rnmfl late sown rrrain which rus- ted, aild instead of doing as many would' liave done, he cat the grain before the stalks had ripened in fact, .v-rJ K-rtrai -r)il Tmsejv Oiled it up. His idea in so doing was to ex periment a little The wlieat thus rus ted ripened and cut in the pile, and when it was examined the heads were found filled with the plumpest of grain, and the wheat threshed there from of a superior quality. The wheat was cut when the grains were "stiff dough," and it is established by the experiment that the sap' from the stalk continued to pass into the heads until they were filled, and the sun ri pened the grain long after it was cut. Tnis is something new to us, and prob ably will ba to many farmers of large experience; and as there is considerable grain in the county afflicted with rust wo would'like to liear of the experiment Heine repeated.. If thVresuifc will'hold' good in all cases, rust will lie'robBed'of all'its terror of our grain- producers hereafter, and its appearance1 ih" fields, will show them tliat very often tl'iey can commence harvesting carl) in damp as well as dry seasons The Democratie State' Central" Com-- mitteo has decided to retain the name of Hugh J. Glenn, at the head of the State ticket, notwithstanding he re fuses to support tlio balance of our nominees. That they could liave reached this conclusion after the posi tion Glenn has taken towardDemocrat ic organization amazing, and tho de cision will bo received with disgust and ' indiLiiatiotfcbv thousands of li a &m2 who liavealwaysS This is tho result of tile miserable tra ding and trafficking spirit tnat actua ted a largo portion of tlie Fate State Convention who seemed more' anxious to secure office than they were to main tain principle. This decision will ear ry demoralization throughout the ranks as the party is placed in tho position 'of being the mere tender of the faction called the Honorable Bilks, which is tho incubation of the San Francisco "Chronicle," and worn out political hacks of both tho Dcmocaticand Re publican parties. Tho rank and file of tho Democratic party arc under no obligation to endorse the action of the State Central Committee, and are now free to vote as they please a privilege they will exercise in the most indepen dent manner, and in a way that will learn the incompetent leaders of the party a lesson. The Democrats of Ne vada county will spew Glenn of their niouUis. "Grass Valley Union." Better bo right than conquer in an argument. Better bear the assumpt ions of ignorant men tlian waste your dearly bought experience on fook.
