Evening Journal, June 7, 1900.] Fora number of years the Wrought Inin Range Co., of St Louis, Mo., have been manufacturing a range known as the Home Comfort, which they have guaranteed to be as nearly Indestructible as human hands and brains could make them. This was amply demonstrated on April 26th last, when the great, tire swept over Hull. Eight of these ranges were in the burnt district; but although they were for many hours subjected to the terrible haat, the falling walls and chimneys, the water which was thrown upon the buildings, they were each brand in tact among the ruins. In one case, however, a cast iron pot, which had been left on the range, was found to have been melted and run over the top. The copper reservoirs were naturally melted by the terrible heat, and some of the lighter bracket work was bent by failing roofs and walls; but so far as tbe main body of the rauge was coHcerned, not a piece was warped, not a cover bent or a single plate cracked or broken. The survivors of the two Oregon regiments of cavalry and infantry o' 1861-65 will bold a reunion at the city ball in Salem on Saturday, February 3d. In reply to a letter from J. B. Dlmick, of Hubbard, Mayor Bishop notified the old veterans that they might have tbe free use of the council Lt is the material employed and the method of making whicl*. gives the Home (Jomfort Ranges this wonderful chamber in tbe city hall for* holding their reunion. The meeting is in tenacity and strength. The material used is malleable iron, wrought steel and asbestos. Malleable iron has been shown by chemical and mechanical tests to have a heat-resisting power twelve and one-half times greater than that tended for the surviving members of cf cast iron. The frames, doors and all parts liable to strain or breakage, are made of the material.
