It seems they have every confidence in the success of the Winnemucca road, from the fact that it has two connec tions : 1st, with the Eister?» States via Winnemucca, and 2d, with Cali fornia and Southern Pacific roads, which must connect somewhere in the Klamath country, each of which they think will be self-supporting. B. J. Pengra has recently returned from San Francisco, where he went to confer with the directors of the Central Pacific road to learn upon what terms that company would undertake the construction of this road. These gentle men now come to Oregon to confer with the directors of the Oregon Cen tral Pacific as to working arrange ments between the two companies. The Central Pacific directors will also, while here, examine the North Pacific coast generally, including the Puget Sound, after which they will return to Portland, whence, with two or more of the Oregon Central Pacific directors, they will proceed over the westside road and other conveyance to Eugene, and thence eastward by tho proposed line of the Winnemucca road over the Cascade range of mountains to Winne mucca. After meeting the Winne mucca surveying party who are now out, they will return to the Klamath Lake country, where the connection is to be made with the California system of roads ; and from this point return ' to San Francisco overland. The prospect for the election of a Democrat to succeed Hon. Geo. A. LaDow is very favorable. The Dem ocracy displays much animation and interest in the coming contest, while the other parties remain in a dormant condition, seemingly not aware that an important election is near at hand. The meeting of tho Republican and Independent State Central Committees mu9t have been very sliroly attended, as we notice they fail to have the re ports thereof published, contenting themselves with a simple call for pri maries and conventions. There is no doubt but what with a good candidate we can carry the State by a large majority. There are many strong and efficient men in the Demo cratic ranks who will accept a nomina tion, and we have implicit faith in the Convention, which meets next Thurs day, nominating a candidate whom all Democrats and the people at large can support with a will. Like the Albany Democrat, we be lieve that no particular section has a particular demand on the Convention for a candidate from it, as the entire people are interested in this office, as well as any other State office. Be cause a candidate comes from South ern or Eastern Oregon, the Willamette Valley or any other section, is no rea son why he should receive the nomi nation, and we know the Democratic Convention will make no nomination oa such grounds. What the Democ racy want is a candidate who is capable, Bid who will attend to the wants of the entire State. Sectional prejudices , should not animate any one, and we | Ornerai Jo.
