Rev M L Rugg, of Salem, delivered everat fine sermons at the tho Baptut Church last week, ending last Sunday even ing, at which time there, were received into the church three members by immersion. A few of our citizens, without any public notice being given, met at the Court House last Monday evening and organixed an immi gration society. Geo M Miller of this city, and Geo Thurston, of Portland, were appointed to represent Lane county at the organization of the State Board of Immigration. Some of the laws intended for the benefit of married women turn out to have quite an op posite effect Here is one in Oregon which the courts construe to mean that the wife, if she has property, is liable for the expenses of her family, and consequently the poverty stricken husband can run up bills which the wife is obliged to pay. This was a decision in a suit brought by a butcher for the amount of hie meat bill. Before the passage of the law a married woman was oi.ly liable for her own contract. I mane. Mr S M Andrews, a respected citixen of Eugene, has been noticed to act queerly for th past week. Last Wednesday morning he aroie about 3 o'clock, aud after writing letter of advice aud bidding several friend good-bye in the same manuer, left hi home going northward, without informing hi daughter where he wa going. Partiea were sent out in search of him aud ho was found wandering aimlessly about in the neighbor hood nf Irving. Ho was caught, after con siderable trouble, and brought to Eugene. Thursday morning he was examined before Jndge Washburne by Dr T L J oue and T XV Harris, who pronounced him insane. Temperance and religion seem to be the tnhjucts he i insane upon, so the above gen tlemen say. At time he was quite violaut He was taken to the asylum at Salum Thurs day morning by Deputy Sheriff Cochran and Mr M 8 Walli. Eugene i evidently getting a very large hre of the emigration now entering the Willamette, which is, doubtless, due in a measure to the liberal advertising done by the real estate agents. Junction City is certainly holding her own and fostering every interest The west side division of tho Oregon k California will be built, and this place will draw a large portion of the trail o which uow goes to Harrisburg, which is rather at a standstill, as compared to towns further south. The damage snit of Withrow v the O It C II R, wherein th plaintiff sued tho company for ?40,000 dam ages, for maimiug hts 18 , month-old boy, was decided for the plaintiff on Friday March 27th, in the Circuit Court at Lafa yette, the jury awarding $l.r,000 damages. A few mouths ago Mrs Withrow was about to step from the train at Amity, Yamhill comity, with the child in her arms, when the train was suddenly backed with t ie usual jerk. Mr Withrow dropped tl child aud it fell under the car wheel, and had both legs cnt off. The blame wa laid on the brake. nan, who was not attending to business. Col J K.
