Rhea, who bought number of Angora goats from Mr. Lan drum last summer, is well satisfied with his investment A sample of the wool brought in by him is over a foot in length. Their ca pacity for grubbing would make them valua ble in many localities, if there were no other reason. In three years a hundred head put on s hundred acres of oak grub land will clear it off and make it ready for the plow. There are thousands of acres of hill land in Lane county that might be brought into cultivation by the introduction of these animals, and at profit to the owner, for the flock would be ' much more vaue at the end of that time than at the beginning. Good Advice. Stick to the country, is the advice given by a San Francisco paper to persons who find themselves out of employ ment, aud thereupon immediately rush for the cities. It says the cities are already over crowded with idle men, whilst there is but little' destitution in tke country, am roroly if ever an instance in which a worthy man suffers for want of shelter and food. In the cities it is different The benevolent institu tinuo are all overtaxed with demands for re lief, and the man without money who i de nied their benefit is in a sad plight indeed. The freqtfent suickle bear attestation to this; and therefore, in all earnestness, We repeat the injunction, "stick to the country." Yon who are poor have comforts thore which you can not hope to find in the cities. Official Visit. Mr. J. H. Kunzie, Grand Master of Masons of Oregon, will visit Eu gene City Lodge No. 1 1 in his official capaci ty Wednesday evening, Feb. 21st. Minstrel Entertainment. The Correspondent of the Oregonian Branded as a Liar. The correspondent of the Oregonian nndcr the head of Eugene Items of Feb. 13th ays: "I have extended my enquiries to the noting foreman and first assistant, and thay say that the flag was never presented prior to Febru ary 5th." This is an unmitigated lie, and the correspondent is aware of the fact, and if he had any of the characteristics of a gentle man he would blush to make such assertions, t H. t L Co. have already voted that lie i a liar, and now the acting foreman again brand him as such. Now isn't the time; but pretty soon all our exchanges will be making this remark, aud we are lound that our readers shall have the earliest news within our grasp. The outlook for the creditors of L Y . Ka- notf is not improved by reports from Messrs. McComack ami liohmson, wno went to rtnu Francisco to look after their interests. About 23,000 pounds of hops had been (hipped by KanuB to New York, and from these it is ex pected something will bo realized. Coos Bay News: "There is a man in our jail serving out a term for coats in a criminal case ! Unery. Ev idently a man can be imprisoned in default of payment of costs, or else the News prevar icates in the first sentence. American Hops, In the American Agriculturist for Februa ry, we hnd tins : The crowing of hops m the United States is becoming a staple business. It has been lifted out of its previous Unsettled, specula tive character by the demand for foreign ex port, which has now liecotne settled aud per manent. Foreign markets are now opened in Knirland and Germany, and our product has acquired an established reputation. It is not to lie expected that hop growers will in future dig up their yards in dingust, at the iiniiossi bifityof disposing of their crop, but those who once enter the business will remain in it, taking good and bad asons as they come, sure on an average of a fair profit for their labor. The past year's crop amounts to 130, -0 K) bales of 200 pounds each. Last year (i0, -000 bales were exported, and the prolmbility is that the jiresent year' export will equal that of last year. Up to November 1, 1871), over 55,000 bales had been received at New York, against 24,000 bale np to the same ilato last year, and ;ii,UUU Dales nan neon- ex- . 7.... . i ili.lmfitd nPA portca. meure.u iiiihii" 1T. In view ot the established onarac- tor of the American hop trade, and the prom ising future that may bo expected for it, we nmv look for a considerabhi increase in the culture of this crop, and improved and more successful methods of managing it, as regards rlisiisi And vermin which allect it, and the processes 6f curing and preparing lor marKox. The prices for tho past yeor have averaged 27 cents per pound, which ha given a very profitable result yielding from 250 to $300 ler acre.
