The Chinese at Al riany had a sick "cousin" on hand who was about to die, ami not relishing the idea of having a death in the house, on last Satur day night they stowed him away in a hog pc-n, without any covering except his own scanty clothing, in the rear of Senders & Sternberg's st 're, where -he was found on Sunday morning by the City Marshal. A coroner's jury was summoned, and a verdict of death by dropsy of the heart, hastened by exposure, was rtndered. The body was buried Sunday by order of tile Coroner, but not a Bingle Chinaman attended. The pro prietor of the wash house at which he had lieen sick, was promptly arrested, and con fessed to having assisted in carrying him to the hog pen. He was bound over to await the grand jury in the sum of 250. M. S. and Arch Monteith gave the necessary bail and he wa3 released. "For ways that are dark, and tricks that are vain the "heathen Chinee' is proverbial." Stabbing Affray. On last evening Mar shall Pygall arrested an old man named Jno. Wesley for drunkenness. The old man went along all right for a ways, when be suddenly drew a large pocket kr.ife and made a lunge for Pygall, cutting through his clothes, and making a scratch about four inches long directly over the abdomen. Py gall thtu threw him down and took the knife away from him and lodged him in the calaboose. Thi3 morning hu was arrested for an assault with a deadly weapon, and taken lefore his honor, Justice Wrenn, who bound him over in the sum of 100 to ap pear at the next term of Court. His bonds were furnished, and he wa3 set at liberty. The old man had previously told several parties that when under the influence of liquor he was inclined to lie quarrelsome, and would use a kuife or anything he could get hoid of, but the Marshal was not watch ing for any such demonstration, and the old fellow came very near lixing him. Thanksgiving in Corvallis. Thanks giving nay passed off very quietly in this city. The schools were all dismissed, but a majority of the stores kept open all day. The Union services were huM in the M. E. C'.iurc : at 11 o clock, Rev. Bowersox, of the KvaagelicaJ church, preaching the sermon. Our regular reporter not coming to time we cannot give as full a report of the services as we would like to have done. In the after noon the young people went to the City Hall and spent several hours in enjoying themselves on roller?. In the evening there was a pleasant party at the Occidental Ho tel, and the stating rink was also well pat ronized, and everybody seemed to enjoy themselves. And thus Thanksgiving was kept in Corvallis. Shootino at Halset. The Albany Dem ocrat gives an account of a shooting scrape in Halsey, between W. H. Gaston, a teach er in one of the schools at that place, and a pupil. It seems that the boy, who was only 15 years old, became unruly and the teacher gave him the privilege of taking a whipping, leaving school or doing as he was ordered, neither of which he would do. The teacher then undertook to forcibly expel him, when he drew an old pistol from his pocket, and in trying to get it in working order it went off, and the ball struck at Mr. Gaston's feet. The teacher took the pistol away from him and put ont of the house He was arrested and placed under 300 bonds to await the action of the grand jury. Fatal Accident. The Harris burg Nu cleus says that Wm. Fawyer, an old man about C5 ye;rs of age, living on the island below Harrisburg, on the old Ingram place", was instantly killed on Tuesday, the 16th inst, while digging potatoes in the field near his house. The wind was blowing strong and broke ofl the top of a balm tree, near where he was at work. In trying to avoid the tree it appears that he ran directly under it, and it struck him on the head, mashing in the skull and breaking his neck. He was a sober, industrious citizen, and leaves a wife and six children to mourn his sad and untimely end. H. & L, Ball. It is a fact well established by unques tionable testimony that Hall's Hair Renewer renews, cleanses, brightens, invigorates and restores to its original color and lustre, faded gray or discolored hair, cheaply, quickly and surely. The poorest people prefer to buy it and use it, rather than to proclaim in a manner more forcible than words can delineate, throngh blanched locks or grizzy beard, that they are aged and passing to decay. A very short trial will convince the most skeptical that it. does eradicate the scalp diseases which rob the hair of its color and life. Fort Scott (Kan.) Daily Monitor.
