H yde, Superin tendent o f the Virtue Mine, informs us that the new hoisting machinery is now on the road from Um atilla. It consists o f tw o boilers, one large engine for hoisting, and two Burleigh drills. The ground to receive the m achincry is being prepared as fast as possible. One o f the Burleigh DrillB w ill be used for sinking the new shaft, w nich will be started 450 feet east of the ledge, and will intersect the vein at a depth of 1500 feet. The Burleigh Drills w ill be propelled by compressed air, for w hich purpose a 40 horse power air com - presser has been purchased arid is now on the road. It is estimated that the new shaft can be sunk 100 feet per m onth with the Burleigh Drills. The m ill Is constant ly running on good ore. There are about 100 workm en em ployed at present, and houses, to accom m odate more laborers, are being erected. A R o g u e . —On last Sunday week a man C o l l e c t io n s .— W. F. The Bishop, in com pany with Bishop Morris, left our city on last W ednesday m orning for W alla W alla. He was well liked by our citizens, and they hope that he m ay be able to visit our city often. have received a long Fourth of July Oration, delivered at a celebration in John D ay’s V alley, Grant coun ty, accom panied with a request for us to publish It.
