Tlie Democratic) party of Uio United States in convention assembled declare: First We pledae ourselves anew to ih constitutional doctriucs and traditions of the IMmoerntio party illustrated by the teachings and example ifa long Hue of lHnnceratie statesmen and patriots, and embodied in the platform of the last na tional convention of tho part r. . ISecond Opposition to centralization and that danirerous spirit of encroacliiui-nt which tend to consolidate the "powers of all the department in one, and thus to create, whatever the form of government, a real despotism ; no suuiptimrv laws.scp- nration of church and staie for the good of each, common s-yiools to it) iosUcied and protected. - ; i Third Home rule, honest money, von- siMing of uclil, silver, and pa nor. aonveiu lle into com mi ilcinaii.l ; f-tik t maintcn- alien of tlio piiblio fail h, slate and national, and a tarilT for revenue? otilr. Fifth Klein to a free ballot as the riirhl lu-eservativo of all nth Is. and must and shall bo preserved in every part of the United States. Seventh The great fraud of JrtTti. by wtuuu. upon a false cnimt ot the electoral vcte of two Rtato-J, the candidate defeated at the polls was declared to bo President, and for the first tium in American history the will of the people was set aside under threat ot military violence, turuck a deadly blow at our system cf representative gov ernment. The Democrat io jarty, to pre serve the country from the horrors ol a civil war, submitted for the time in the firm and patriotie faith that the people would polish this crime in lsi0. xiiis issue precedes and dwarfs every other. It imposes a more sacred duty upon tho.roo plo of the union than was ever addressed to the conscience of a nation of Ircemen. Kighth We execrate the course of this administration in making places for potit ical criminals, and demaud a reform by statute nidi shall make it forever impos sibie ior a defeated c-audidnte to brine his way to the seat " a usurper by villainies upon the people. . Jsinth The resolution of Samuel J. Til- den not again to be a candidate for re-eloe tiou to the exalted place to which he was elected by a majority of his countrymen, and from which he "was excluded by the loaders of the Republican party, is ro ceivod by the Democrats of tho , Catted States with sensibility, and they declare their confidence in his wisdom and patri otism ana integrity unsullied liy the as sault of the common enemy, and thev further declare to him that ho w sollowud into the letirement he has chosen f.w linn elf by the sympathy and respect of his fellow-citizens, wi.o regard bun as one who, by elevating the standaid of public moraiuvana adorning and purircing the public service, merits the lasting gratitude v. uia cvuntry auu is pany.
