Sixteen hundred men are at the pres eut moment making the dust fly on the Al bany prairie, and aa the grade nowhere U over three or (oar feet iu the heaviest" part, the official of the road have written to the Brownsville folks assuring them that they u take the cars at that poiut and come to Portland to iuditlge in their big sprve over the result of the Presidential election. ' The track is beiug pushed south from Xilvertosl it a very rapid rate, but as there are a great uiaay largo streams to be crowed, it is uot quit as rapid as the ntsu&geiuent of the road or as interested public desires it to he. When the last spike is driven at Urowusville a grand j ibilee will be held all along the line. An excursion train tilled with iuvited guests and notable people will probably leave Hays' Ker ry in tha morning and make tbe run through to the former poiut in time to return the same day. Ex tensive preparations are briug made to make the opening a success. Speech uiakiag, barbecues and so on are being ar ranged, and all necessary ftrmliues for eel ebnting a grand event ia a becoming style are being prepared. Champagne and toasts and grand rejMciugswiU be in order through out the valley, and Mr. Keid will probably tiud himself a mighty popular nun, for a time at least, as soon as one f his locomotives goes pnSiog into the town of Bmwusville. Tfce Barrets Caacr. A correspondent of the IiuHrUu. says tl Korth Santsaia bridge is complete ; that over the South Saatiaui will be done on Saturday. These structures are composed respectively of two Howe truss spans of IGOand 100 feet. The former has 1,000 feet of trestle bridging to its approaches ami the latter 1,200 feet making, therefore, the Xorth Santiam 1.2G0 feet ia its entire length, and the South San- tism 1,460 feet. The narrow gauge takes 2,640 ties per mile. It is well tied; the rails are three feet apart and the engines eighteen ton weight. The track is to reach Scio by the 24th inst. Tbe contractors propose to lay four miles of track per day on Albany prai rie. Scio is building np lively. TfceOrrsea rartAe atallread.
