A DVERtlBE M E M T 8. A. W flEELER & CO'S COLUMN. A DVERTI8EMENTS ADVEILTISKMKNTri ADVERTISEMENTS. ' ADVERTISE MENTP. JOB PRINTING. ;: mt:tmtx&k- FiilDAY.."..". ...Z&VGV&fT AN IBlsUJIA.N FROM ARIZONA. Michael O'Connor, an Irishman of medium size, but with far greater strength and activity than falls totlie ghare of the general run of men of hia build, reached tne city last ween from Arizona. Un Saturday nigut he went in search of a friend living in tli r.irrl.tfiflnth Ward. At Iwen- tieth streeth and Avenue A, he asked one of a number of young men for the address of his friend. The young man held him in conversation for a few minutes, and then pretend ing to know tne person inquirea ror, walked toyard, First Avenue with 0'Conn6r. I When thev had reached the mid die of the block the self-constituted guide thrust his hand into the pocket of O'Connor's trowserg ilnd seized a roll of bills containing $54. At the some time the crowd from the corner ioined in the attnck, two or more of It ; rtr. i 1 . mem seizing y Connor oy w n' der fronj bemud, and throwing him violently tS the sidewalk. But the Irishman's Western training stood him iij good stead. In spite of the blows dealt him by the tlueves ne ! cained his feet in a twinkling, and drawinsr his pocket knife a short bladed, dull weapon plunged it into the back of the man next to him. The fellow dropped as if shot, and O'Connor sprang for the other thieves, who were now in full retreat. In two jumps he overtook the last of the party, seized him by the hair and stabbed him. Seeing that the . man whom he had first wounded was walking off, he pulled his second prisoner to him, and held both until the police arrived. At the Twenty-second street police station the wounded men gave their names as (ieorge U linen of Jvist Eighteenth street, and Thomas Win ters of 330 Avenue A. Subsequently Captain Tynan caused the arrest of Philip Conor of 841 East Twenty third street, whom O'Connor recog nized as one of his assailants. The money was not recovered. The wounded men were attended to by the police surgeon, who did not con sider it necessary to send them to the hospital. Yesterday the prison ers were brought before Justice Ot tcrburg at Essex Market, and re manded to the station. In order to hold O'Connor as witness and com plainant, Capt. Tynan charged him with felonious assault, and ho was also locked up. Ihe (Jnptain says that the prisoners ueiong to a gang ot young despera does who infest the ward, living by theft and robbery. They will proba- uiy he indicted to-morrow and tried on Wednesday. N. 1, Sun. ' I1LOW.V I'll ATOM. The terrible cfl'ects of the explo sions of six cans of nitro-glyceriue il5U pounds) near Parker's Landing, 'a., by which a young man named Osborn wag blown to atoms, are thus described: "OBborn started from Enileton to Potrolia, where ho was to fill several orders. When he reached Parker it was too dark to proceed further with any degree of safety,, and he was persuaded by a relative to remain over night. He was called early in the morning, and obtained a horse and buckbourd, started for Parker ovor the roughost road that was possible, although it is conjectured ho wont thut way to make time, as it was the nearest route. Ho had crossed Boar creek nnd was over a hundrod feet up the slope of the bill when the explosion occurred. Osborn's body waB terri bly nianrrled. The head and bodv. from above the hips, and portions of the arms were thrown over 300 feet from the scene. Entrails, parts of clothing and dobris could be seen hanging in the tops of the trees thouirh thev were over 100 font liioh The head and portions of the stom ach were found in Bear creek, ovor iuu loot distant. The right hand was found over half a mile away, and in a radius of a mile numerous other portions were found, but it would be utterly impossible to dis tinguished thein from portions of the horso, whoso body was scattorod in all directions by the terriffio con cussions. The shoos whom torn from the horses feet, which mav be termed the most singular incidont of the disaster. I he roar of the buck board and parts of the structure were found scattered over the hill and ravines, aud could not bo dis- uuguiKneu- except ty previous knowledge of what it. was.' The trees are stripped of foliage for rods nroiinu, many ol them being barked. The excavation of the road cnuseil by the explosion was four to 6ve fcot deep, and most of it wa from solid ruc&.
