Two Radical papers in Salem have at tempted to prejudice and forestall public opinion by publishing articles reflecting so vercly'upon the defendant in this latter case. Atl we propose to say at present is simply this : He gave a bond of fire $5,000 with out any difficulty, and applied for and ob tained a change of venue to this county where he lives and where the crime with which ho is charged is all edged to have been been perpetrated. He most emphatically denies being guilty, and as ho will bo de fended by the ablest of counsel, we hare but little doubt he will be aoqnitted. After the case shall hare undergone judicial investiga tion we may have a little to say in reply to what has loen said by tho Radical papers af orementioned. The habit in which some editor indulge of besliming men charged with crime prior to legal investigation is frequently fraught with pernicious conse quences and sometimes helps to subvert the ends of justice; and it is often the case that if these viUiSers were required to throw the first stone at their victim, they would slink out, one by one, looking as mean as a sheep killing doz when conscious that his innate meanness and villainy have been discovered by his master. Festival. We again call attention to the card of the ladies of the U. P. church, in another column, announcing a supper at Parrish's Hall on next Thursday evening. Balsam.
