Yet the true tons of earth Trill pass his garments by, and love The man's high, honest worth. Yet, sad it is, within our days, (Refute it, they who can!) That clothing, cut in richest style, Not merit, makes the so an. This should not be for all who dwell Upon this earthly sod, Though high or low, though rich or poor, Are equals, to our God. Bat, oh, that time is hastening on, And may it not bo far, When true and honest merit shall Reign as the evening star ; When man shall be most highly prisod For honor all alonci Though palace grand, or humble cot Should be his earthly homo. Hot Place. the bridge was burn ed on the Peoria and Warsaw ltallron.il over Panther Creek car loads of highvrines, lard, hoes and cool were precipitated into one immens s pile and on the top of all came the engine. This ignited the heap, and such a fire was got up as u not often seen. The heat was so intense that it was impossible to approach it and car wheels were melted as if a 1 . taey were ieaa, ana wrougni iron couea up like wire. Before the fire had got well going, several barrels of freight were rescued from the flames, but they were gobbled up by some body that rather seemed to like their contents and coul 1 not restrain their disposition for plunder, but thejnost of the tram was con sumed in a fire that can hardly be surpassed when the "elements shall meet with torrent heat." Peoria Democrat. A Mot est Reqcest. A few weeks after a late marriage, the husband had some peculi ar thoughts when putting on his last clean shirt as Le saw no appearance of a washing. He thereupon rose earlier than usual one morning and kindled a fire. "When hanging on the kettle he made a noise on purpose to arouse his easy wife. She immediately peep ed over the blankets, and then exclaimed, My dear what are you doing ?' He deliber ately responded, "I' to put on my kt clean shirt, and I'm going to wash one fcr myself. "Very well," replied Mrs. Easy; "you had better wash one for me, too !" Your j urse, Tom said an indulgent fath er to his spendthrift son, "reminds me of a thundercloud." "flow so, father ?"
