r STATE RIGHTSDEMOCR AT. HT Money Market. San Framifco Legal ienaer raws ,,i New York Gold Quotations, 130 Contributions for the Soctu. Since our last issue vre have received the following monies for the destitute and Buffering of the South : . J. A. McGhce, $2,00 j Mrs. J. McGhee, - $1,00; Harrison Swank, sen., $10,00; U. A. McFrtrland, $5,00. Total, received up to date, $28,00. Who comes next? We shall make a re mittance soon ; and those vrho intend con tributing should do bo soon. When men, and women, and children arc actually starv ing for something to eat, what wo do should be dono quickly, if wo would do any good with our benefactions. We suppose that we, who are on this' coast, cannot form a correct conception of the extent of destitution and suffering existing in many portions of the South. The kind-hearted and benevolent, of all parth?, all over the Union, aro moving ia this matter. We invite all, and particu larly Republicans, to read Greeley's, speech -which we publish to-day on the impor tance of aiding the South in this her hour of suffering and wo. Divorce Scit. Among the cases that are .Wketed. and that will come before Judge Boise for adjudication at the ensuing term of the Circuit Court, is that ot Jamca Churchill r. Mary Ann Churchill. It is an application, on the part of Mr. ChurchiU, r a divorce. Wc aro credibly informed that the parties were married only a few days ago ; but Mrs. C. has persistent ly and firmly refused to live Vuii him as his -wife since their marriage. When interroga ted a3 to her reasons for this strange conduct, she prcuptly acknowledges that her hus band is not to blame ; that he has ever treat ed her in the most kind and affectionate manner. She alledges that she has reasons ;which,"t3 her mind, are conclusive ; but thus far she declines to reveal them. The most charitable conclusion we can arrive at is that she is, oa this particular subject, partially insane, or at least laboring under a tempo rary hallucination. Albant Brass Band. A brass band Las . been recently organized in this city, com posed of the fallowing named gentlemen : Geo. Godley. P. .11. Farrcll, A. II. Tinker, Wm. Milkr, Jno. Parker E. D. Waller, Ira Miller, D. W. Wakefield and Taylor Hill. The "bov3" have secured the serricas of Trof. J. Everest, leader ot the "Mechanic's Band" cf Portland, as teacher, and under his skillful tutorage they sxe making rapid and commendable progress. They should be encouragel by the citizens of Albany, for fi brass band is a desirable institution in ev ery town. Long may the Albany Bra Band "toot." Lead and Silver Ore. Abraham Miller, jun., living near Albany, has laid on curta te for inspection, a specimen of lead and silver ore weighing two and a half pounds. It is from the mine in this county, east of the Santiam river, known as the "Sherman Lead." We have no data by -which to de termine the relative proportion of lead and silver it contains ; but that it is very rich in both none can doubt after an j;iamiu&U&n. "From facta in cur possession we have bat little doubt that there are mines in Linn county rich ia gold, and silver, and lead, md perhaps copper. NtS?- We invite attention to the advertise ment of M. W. Mack, Albany, dealer in stoves, theet-iron, copper and tinware. He has a large assortment on hand ; and having had considerable dealings with him, we can testify thai wa have found him fair and ton orable ia all his business intercourse with us. Wool. Our esteemed friend, J. Xorcross, though not by any means a member of the f 'wool party," gives notice to the public that he wish 33 to purchase a large lot of wool. Strange, isn't it? The wool he wants ia white wool. He is willing to give a quid pro quo for it. Thanss. The junior partner of the "Democrat" returns his "duty" to Messrs. Marshall fc Schlosserof the Albany Livery Stable, for a ride in one of their "fast" turn outs - on Saturday last. Their teams are "rushers." MARRIED : SIMPSON COCHRAN. On the 12th inst, fcy Eer. IL C. Hill, at the residence of the bride's mother, s'x miles south of Albany, Mr. Lewis M. Simpson and Miss Emma R Cochran all of Linn county, Oregon.
