STATE RIGHSft DEMOCRAT J; Fan Francisco Lejral Tender rate; 1-....'.7172 New York Gold Quotations -I 117 Jemmy- "Wood's Besktit Concert. Not withstanding the Sruleincnt state of the weather the night being dark, rainy and windy a lai"ge crowd of the citizens of Al bany and vicinity fillel the hall of the Court House on last Monday eTeninj the occasion of Mr. Wood's bcuefit concert. The per formers had been given very little time for practice and preparation, as every one pres ent knew, and it was -with a considerable de gree of surprise and pleasure that we listen ed to their musical performances. Evident taste and care had been displayed in the se lection and arrangericnt of the different pieces, and the manner in which some of them were rendered would have done credit to n well organized, troupe of minstrels. We would like to mer.tion some of the per formers who pleased us" very much in their display of superior musical talent and abili ty, but for many reasjns we forbear. The concert was gotten up more for a charitable and philanthropic purpose, than for an at tempt at any display of musical talent, and therefore we think any remarks, in the way of encomiums or panegyrics designating any one of the performers, would bo out of place and uncalled for. The frequent demonstra tions of applause nnd occasional encores which greeted the performers fully attested the appreciation of the audience, who were greatly delighted at tae rendering of some of the pieces. The performance was so well received and liked that a repetition of it was requested by many of the auditors, which accordingly took place on the following eve ning, on which occasion there was a fair at tendance and quite as good an entertain ment. Taken all ia all, the concert was a decided success, and reSeets great credit up on all concerned, fcoth for the manner in which it was arranged and conducted, and the noble object for which it was designed. The net proceeds of the concert amounted to $125. In this connection Mr. "Wood desires us to tender his thanks to the public for their generous and liberal patronage of the enter prise ; and especially does he desire to ex press his gratitude to the persons who vol unteered their services f jr the occasion, de voting so much time and attention from their several avocations to aid in this laudable ob ject, assuring them that the remembrance of their kindness will ever remain fresh and green In his heart, whether or not he suc ceeds in gaining that inestimable boon for which he is hoping and striving the resto ration of his now sightless orbs. He starts f jt San Francisco next week, to consult a renowned oculist of that city, to whom he his been recommended for treatment. Picture Gallekt. Messrs. Thompson Paxton take as good pictures as any . artists in Oregon. We hid our classic "phiz" drawn at their gallery this week, (a few cop ies of which are still for sale at the same price as those of A. Lincoln and X". Bona parte) and can assure all that they can pro cure a "perfect shadow of their original selfJ by calling at the same plaee and pay ing a small aaiour.t cf ''rhino." Young man or woman, years hence you will want ta look at yourself ss in times agone, socn after you had started iu the weary pilgrim age of life, ere the storms of care, sorrow and adversity had beset your path, along which ever since there had been broken shrines where a thousand hopes had wasted iato ashes; footprints sacred under the drifting dust ; green mounds where the grass is fresh with the watering of tears a' picture of yourself now, to look upon then, would truly be a magnificent monument of those "happy days now gone forever' 'and a faithful remembrancer of the loved and dear ones that clustered round your youth's happy home. "Money-order Offices. The following post offices in Oregon have just been des'g nated as money-order ofSees : Albany Linn county; Auburn, Baker; Canyon Olty, Grant; Corvallis, Benton; Dallas, Polk Eu gene City, Lane; Jacksonville, Jackson Lafaye?f?, Yamhill; La Grand, Union; Roseburg, Douglas; Salem, Marion; Dalles Wasco; Umatilla, Umatilla; Oregon City, Clackamas. Portland has been a money-order oSce since the 5 th of last Fehuary. The bffiees just designated, will probably not get in practical operation before the 1st of Jan tiarv. Millinery". It.is with pleasure that we call the attention of our lady readers to the card of Mrs. Jackson 3Irs. Duniway in this week's paper. 3Irs. Jackson has just re turned from San Francisco with a fine assort ment of the latest styles of fashionable mil linery goods. Thee ladies solicit a liberal 8 .are of patronage frera the fair denizens of Albany and tlie surrounding country, without regard to politics or religion, assur ing all that they will be served with goods in excellent style and at the most moderate prices. - j Postmasters. The following persons have been appointed Postmasters in Oregon: Nathaniel Martin, Cottage Grove, Lane coun ty ; Samuel IT. Claughton, Lebanon, Linn county; Wm. E. Woodcock, Starr's Point, Benton county; Robt. Hanna, Belpassi, Marion county ; Lewis Knapp, Port Orford, Carry county ; B. F. Giltner, St Helens, (Columbia county; U. S. Fitzhugh, Roseburg Douglas eouaty ; W. C. Picket, Liberty, JJsaton county. The PostofSce at Mohawk, Lane county, has been discontinued. The City Election'. Uu the first "Mon day in December next, according to a notice which we see posted In various parts of town, our city election ia to be held; at which time a Mayor, Recorder, Marshal and six Aldermen are to be elected. Very little, interest seems manifested in regard to the matter by either party, up to the present date. Some steps should be immediately tiken by the Democrats of the city, if they expect to have, candidates in the field, for HDxt Monday week is election day. Frcit. DO- llEUTY'S Medical and Surgie: Institute is be coming a sins qua non to the welfare of our State and health of our citizens: "5nd h.s rapidly spread ing reputation, although it may excite surprise, is hut the signal of skill, nnd follors as tho natural effect of such a cause. We are personally acquaint ed with gentlemen who" have suffered firyears un der chronic disease, and who had taken advant age of every available means that promised relief, but without success, until they called upon lr. Doherty, who, in an inprcdiMy sWt space of time has given theiu entire relief. It is gratifying to announce this fact, because the Doetor is a gen tleman who seeks, cot bv defamation of others, to establish his reputation, or to rear the snperstruc turo of his own upon the ruin of an another's fame. The Doctor conducts his Institute in sueh a man ner that must be gratifying to all his patients. Ho examines, advises and reenmmends without charge, and the patient," after bearing his terms fr treatment, can accept or reject at pleasure. In ni ease does the Doctor make a ?harge unless he effects a cure. This he is able k do. because he feels the confidence which long erpcrienee has ;iv en, and no doubt the consolation' which appertains to that confidence. Persons afilieted with either aeeute or chronic diseases, woull do well to con sult him. For consultation he sks no fee, nor does he insist on obedience to his advice nnless the patient plaeee himself under his rare.
