The Patrons of Illinois are mov

In the 1,818 Granges in Iowa,
there are no less than 25,000 women,

The Cleveland Crusade.
In Pearl street the women stopped
to cross, when the rabble closed in,
and one fellow named Frank Klein
made use of insulting language.
A policemen seized him, when a
rush was made toward rescue.
Other officers, some firemen and
citizens went to help make the
arrest, and for a while a lively time
and general riot seemed imminent,
'out the police drew their billies and
revo.vers, and managed to keep the
crowd pretty well subdued. The
fellow seized was taken to the sta
tion, and his brother Nicholas
Klein, who tried to rescue him,
was also captured. Ho gave the
officers much trouble. A passing
tire-cart was stopped and Klein was
put in. The horse became fright
ened at the yells of the crowd and
ran away. A wheel struck a hitch
hie post, and fireman, officer and
priscer were thrown out The
prisoner was badly hurt about the
head. Seeing one side of his face
bloody, the rabble became more
excited, d made another rush, but
the officers, continually receiving
reinforcements, Were victorious, ai d
after hard work succeeded in put
ting Klein in the station. While
this was going on a party of women
ware visiting saloons on Detroit
street, but they received the pro
tection ot police, and were not mo
lested. Bat the excitement kept
increasing, and the crowd swelled
steadily. Some brewers got a hand
aud a party ot men in throe vehicles,
and drove about the streets with
flags flying, drinking beer, and
making bacchanalian speeches.
Half the police was called out, and
the Mayor and full Board of Police
Commissioners wept to the seat of
disturbance. They found the wo
men in a saloon,, arid as they were
coming out the Mayor advised them
under the circumstances to go home.
A sufficient escort was furnished
and they went homo One wagon
load of brewers and saloon-keepers
were arrested, after the men refused
to stop driving about the:stt8
